You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Let’s say I was planning a small non-competitive event and it would be useful to know where the participants were.
What the best way? Hiring SPOT trackers? Or is there a way to log the track with Apple Find my Friends (which would probably do)?
It's going to depend on why you are doing it and how out of communication you are going to be. SPOT will work where you don't have mobile signal so if it's a safety thing then that might be your only choice. Other phone based logging methods will work if you are in range of a signal but will depend on battery so if it's a multi day thing you might again be a bit stuffed.

It’s an NHS event. Things might be bad, but they’re not that bad…
This will give you an idea of costs...

That's the chip timing system so it'll bleep at start and then at each feed stop and at the end so it'll give a "last known location". If you want actual live positions, you'll need to go full GPS / spot tracking.
You could do it off Find My Phone or similar (WhatsApp does a live track system as well) but it would require all participants to actively engage with it and you run into potential privacy issues if you're setting up a massive group and everyone is sharing location. Plus it won't work if the signal is bad.
Garmin and Wahoo both have GroupTrack options as well but again, everyone needs to be on the same system and actively engaging with it.
Thanks, it’s really more of a ‘where are they’ thing rather than needing exact timing.
Might have to be SPOT - hire prices don’t look awful.
