I have been using 4g for over a year now and it is fantastic apart from in London.

Another fan here. I was streaming live football while sat in the stands watching county cricket the other day.

I switched from EE/Orange to Three because of the ludicrous data caps that they had on 4G SIMs

EDIT: 14Mbps inside in my office at the edge of Manchester. It barely got 3G+ when with Orange.

I'm not in a 4G area officially but pick it up regularly, on Three. I get about 20mb each way, even on hdpsa I get 8-14

Not trying to be a div; genuine question and all that, but what do you use your phone for that benefits from 40Mbps+ speeds?

I use mine for browsing, watching the odd video and stuff on 3G and might have the endure a second or two of buffering, but then once playback is established there is very rarely any interupption in the playback.
I guess if you are using a tablet to watch a film or something on then it might be nice to know you have a decent amount of headroom in terms of download speed.

I take it most 4G contracts are now unlimited? I get through 2Gb+ per month just on normal 3G.

I work from home, if my internet goes down then my phone is my backup connection - tethered to laptop (I don't get 4G yet but hdpsa is generally faster than my broadband anyway!).

Although it's impressive, it's not the main issue. 4G has much lower latency than 3G so browsing is much more responsive.

Interestingly, in spite of the high speeds, browsing is still faster on my phone on my home 3Mbps broadband.

No, never heard of such a thing. I'm on 2Gb and it's plenty for surfing and FBing etc. Chew through it quite quickly using it for "work" daily though, mostly due to this place 🙂

Yes, but the whole point of 4G is video/music streaming. You'll burn though 2gb in no time at all doing that. What's the point in those speeds if you're only going to browse and update your facebook status?

I could understand it, if you used the phone for a netflix account, or had a 4g account on a tablet and used it to download films. But for 'normal' use, I don't get it.
Perhaps I should try it....

EDIT - I've used 1.29Gb this month so far and that includes being away for 5 days when there was no network connection at all so my phone was turned off.

I get through about 3gb on 3G, could reduce that if I ever remembered to switch the wifi on at home. I guess it just buffers the whole song/film quicker, on 3G spotify just about plays the highest quality in most areas, if it was quicker it would be downloading albums quicker than i could listen to them even in low signal areas as long as I was in range once in a while.

3G is fine for normal browsing, but only just, it falls short if i try to stream something and download a file at the same time.

Apparently Ee can offer 25Gb a month.

Re 4g, it's better all round. Quicker browsing due to better response, and the network is a lot more consistent. If I'm in a 4g area I pretty much always get 4g coverage everywhere. In buildings, in the countryside etc. 3g used to come and go more.

I'd be happy with 3g or even a reliable mobile connection never mind 4g.

So many places have wi-fi we use zero bytes most months. wi-fi is also available in places that still don't have reliable telephone networks - rural Spain for example where we walked for three days with no network. Buying a coffee to get the access code covers two needs for 1e50.

As above, Three network give you unlimited 3G/4G whatever data. Ive never managed to find the properly mental speeds though, the best I found was about 30mbps in Leicester...and whilst up The Shard I was getting barely 2mbps, even on 4G. You also get 4G in a number of countries worldwide as well..upto 25GB worth I think at no extra cost. I work in Australia so that's great for me.

In cities with 4g coverage I find the mobile network is generally far better than the shop's wifi so I often don't bother with the faff.
