Its one of the things I do for a living and out of all the outdoor activities I teach kids, gorge walking/ghyll scrambling is the most fun. Done right it is a hoot. Jumps, slides, swims etc. The kids always say it was the thing they liked best. Top tip is to find a provider who carries an AALA license . It's only a requirement for those who provide adventurous activities to paying under 18s but it is a confidence boost for you as you know they are inspected regularly for the integrity of their health and safety provision. As their is no single qualification for Gorge walking, it is essential that the person or organisation providing it has taken their responsibility seriously and uses staff who are safe in what can be a high risk environment. But like is said, done right it is a hoot.

Cheers for the tips, I've had a look at a few vids and it does look a proper laugh. I imagine my kids would love it, but thankfully we are leaving them at home for the weekend.

Go to Sardinia, stay with the Lemon House ( http://www.peteranne.it/) and get Peter to point you down El Golgo (or something like that)

It's the most amazing gorge ever as it is stuffed full of huge boulders that you have to wiggle around. Peter has an MTB route down to it as well.

Sambob, have you used TT Adventures, prices don't seem to vary much from one company to another, so I could do with pointing in the direction of decent bunch of instructors, or a particularly good location to visit.

Did it as a kid on a school trip to Snowdonia (Beds County Council run centre). It was great fun, probably one of the best things I did there - and I went on 5 week long trips to the same centre I loved it so much.

This is the place, http://www.blueperis.co.uk/activities-gorge-walking/
looks like they let the neighbouring cottage out to anybody. Worth contacting to see if they also offer activities to non school groups.

Did it in the Verdon Gorge in France back in the eighties. It's a total blast but got a bit of a shock when a snake swam past us.

TT Adventures are a good bunch, and the Afon Ddu gorge is great. Blue Peris are also good but I'm not sure they cater for the general public.

In my opinion (I run gorge walking sessions for a centre in wales), the best gorges are in the lakes. I used to work for a company in the Lakes who run sessions in the river Esk which is the best gorge I've done although it is rather chilly!

I can get you the details for them as they have all the requisite insurance and AALA gubbins etc

I've done it on the river between Causey Pike and Stile end in the Lakes in October, that was pretty cold. Was supposed to do it with TT adventures on the Afon Ddu but that got cancelled because it was too cold 🙁

If you are going to North Wales have you considered Coasteering ? Having done both this year I would recommend it over Gorge Walking, you get to do have a go at bigger jumps IME, but it helps to be a good swimmer though ....
