We've sort of decided to buy a lifestyle type camera of some sort mainly because we're doing more wild swimming and it's fun. Is Gopro the best value/quality or has someone found another little gem? Thanks.

I'm in two minds myself over what to get (and when to buy it).

On my shortlist are the Gopro 8 and the Osmo Action.

Both have their pros and cons. I was keen to get the Osmo but in the last couple of months the price has shot up from around £250 or less to around £329.This sometimes includes spare battery and charger and sometimes not.

Both Osmo and Gopro are rumoured to be bringing out new models anytime soon...Gopro 10 and the Action 2 and I wonder if that will push the price of the curent models down.

Both seem to have great stabilisation. The Gopro has Superview which I like but the lens is unprotected and not officially replaceable.  There are workarounds though.

Gopro reliability seems iffy as well.

At the moment I have a cheapie Crosstour which I'll stick with whilst I'm still prevaricating.

I am thinking of the same thing, GP8 vs. Osmo action, but for skydiving (need the image stabilisation that my GP4 does not have).

The consensus seems to be that the Osmo Action is roughly equivalnet to the quality of the GP7, but have a better menu system and the front facing screen of a GP9. The image quality and stabilisation in the GP8 are apparently better, along with better slow motion.

For me here in Sweden, the cost of the Osmo is about 2000kr, with the GP8 coming in at about 3400kr. I am hoping that the GP10 release pushes the GP8 and 9 down so that it makes the decision easier for me, but I am still not sure. Personally, I don't need a front facing camera. I just want a reliable, stabilised, good quality 4k video stream so that I can film FS4 well. Both do that, but the GP8 seems to have the edge.

I went for a GoPro as an upgrade to an older Sony camera.

It takes great photos and videos.

The files are massive!

I've had to reduce the resolution as my laptop and phone can't store it all.
