Being a middle age man with not much in the eway of skills I have an urge to bore people with videos of my bike rides
Just can't shake it.
It seems that the Chinese brand alternatives aren't as good,
I would use it as waterproof stills cameras as well and possible one crazy time lapse project
The price is from Gopro with SD card. I assume that Gopro aren't premamantley on offer
Feel free to persuade me or dissuade me or tell me what i should buy instead
Thanks
John
Ps I've just bought a bike so should be on my best behaviour
It's a good deal, but the 8 is only £60 more last time I looked.
£220 already seem quite alot. Is the 8 that much better
I'm taking a load of pictures in the morning as I'm finally getting rid of all my spare parts and stuff I never use.
A GoPro Hero7 black will be one of them, a bit annoying that GoPro have just decided to slash the price but I'll sell it for £200 posted with a 128gb card
Never used, just the box is a bit tatty from being thrown in a drawer
Good offer
I live in 1080p world
I'll think about it
Stick with the 7 . I have both.
The 8 is not enough better and worse in some areas. See my previous posts.
Just can’t shake it.
Just make sure it has image stabilisation.
I have an 8. The lack of a replaceable lens means it stays permanently in the diving case. Seems madness why you would remove this feature from an “action” camera, as any damage to the lens can’t be fixed.
Should’ve bought the 7 and saved the cash
IMO
Good deal....
Despite having the 7 I looked at getting an 8 (some silly deal where they give you 100€ off when you hand in an old camera) Yr decided against to.
Integrated mount and lack or replaceable lens put me off.
Supposedly the stabilisation isn't much better than the 7.
Go for it. Cameras are small and easy to hide.
Wife reminded me she no longer has an income so I'll be paying the next credit card bill, she normally covers this.
I remain optimistic but should probably look at how big it is first
(Her money will appear at some point as she is self employed with full tax records but I don't suppose she'll buy me a Go pro when it comes in)
Is the white too terrible to consider?
Yes, the white and silver have none removable batteries, a terrible idea

Ive not tried every permutation, but in generall I would say get a s/h black over a new white. You generally got things like glass vs plastic lenses which makes more difference than any ammount of wifi features.
Been umming and ahhing about one for years, every time there's an appealing offer on the previous models, the specs on the latest seem to be too good to miss out on, but I don't fancy the price. But not this time. Seems I've found my point on the late-adopter curve! Just pressed go on the Black 7.
Cheers, ampthill!.
I got the 8 with the £100 off offer. I really like it. Had a 5 previously. This is so much better. I like having a lens that isn’t removable as the old one used to fog up when used in the sea. You can always get a screen protector for about £4. I like not having the case that they all had before. You can just wash this under a tap if you’ve been in the sea. With the old ones you had to take the case off and wash them or salt water would eat away at the doors. You can buy cheap rubber covers for a few pounds which add protection too. The stabilisation is amazing
Having said that, you don’t need it if it’s just for biking and the like. It doesn’t do much that you can’t do in software but for lazy people like me who don’t want to have mess around with it afterwards it’s great.
One downside of the 8 is that it is not compatible with the Remo remote control which was great for voice activation. Apart from that and the cost, I can’t see any disadvantages.
Check out a Youtuber called The Loam Ranger to see what he does with a GoPro 4.

A refurbished 6 is £160. Is the stabilisation good enough on that for chest mount biking? Not that gnarr from a FS. I know that of course it depends on what you count as OK. What software would I need to smooth in post processing? One of the reasons I'm interested in this now is that I do an amount of basic video editing as I'm teaching from home. With stills photography that I have been fairly consistently active in for at least 10 years I post process every shot that I use. So i don't think i fall into the lazy I'll do it from the camera camp
My plan would be to ride some classic bridleway type stuff and then edit together some short clips to show scenery and trail surfaces. No one is going to watch to see my skills

On the other hand just opened a letter from dad about the size of his sisters estate. Order placed. I'll try a cheap generic strap to start with? Or is that a mistake?
I can't work it out - is the 8 Black £279 after trade-in or £179?

I think it is £179. Or why else would you bother sending in an old one
If so, I know there are shortcomings (like the lens and the door access/losability) but that still sounds like the best GoPro deal there's been for a while. Now to see if I held on to any of my old cameras!
I think it's £279. So basically the same price as everywhere else without the hassle of sending an old camera to them.
But... take this as a warning....

This is where all Gopros live within a few weeks.
I disagree re: stabilization.
Having tried to stabilise not particularly gnar footage in post (using Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve) it did not always give usable results.
Apparently ReelSteady have a standalone GoPro version that uses the internal gyro data from GoPro's back to the 5 though.
If you've ever watched a cinematic fpv drone video (particularly a biking one), that likely uses ReelSteady. Like
That's what confused me. But I opened a new browser and it was impossible to buy it for £379 and I didn't get a warning that I had to send a camera to them, but obviously I didn't go all the way through checkout.
Yep, I can make it sell for £279 without a trade-in as far as I can tell, but I haven't managed to get it to show £179. Ah well.
