I need a VPN to stream BBC iPlayer, ITV and Channel 4 whilst I'm outside UK. My current VPN is increasingly flaky and/or buffers badly

Google One membership for not much money gets loads of extra storage PLUS a VPN. So is it any good?

Otherwise, which VPN are considered bullet proof these days (and easy to set up)?

(It will be primarily used on a Windows 10 laptop but also one a couple of Android devices but no more than two concurrently). Thx

If you have a machine in the UK, I would suggest a self hosted VPN.

Google's VPN has an on/off switch and that's about it. It's fine for security (inasmuch as anything Google is) but it won't let you set your location. So no good for what you want.

ProtonVPN ftw. Been using it for 3 years after starting to work overseas.

Very ocassionally something goes tits up with the location detection and I can't stream Disney+ but apart from that it's great.

On the occasions I need to use VPN I have been using Winscribe

It seems to be very reliable and the free version gives you 10Gb/month

I have KeepSolid "Unlimited VPN." I paid like 20 quid for a lifetime subscription on some random promotion like Stack Exchange. It works just fine.

I also use KeepSolid, it's mostly ok, but the Amazon Firestick recognises it and won't run Prime Video when it's turned on

Don't get PIA for this, iPlayer and ITV player wont run through it.

I trialled a VPN service while overseas recently as Sky Go wouldn't work outside the UK. It didn't work with the VPN service either, apparently the service providers (Sky, BBC, etc) not only block non-UK IP addresses, but also those of known VPN gateways.

I bought a Raspberyy Pi off of eBay and followed the instructions here to install a VPN server. It was really easy, so now for the cost of about 6 months VPN service I have my own. Use OpenVPN client to connect. My 13 year old son tried it from Barcelona (school trip) with his phone and it worked a treat.

It is trivially easy to setup a cloud hosted vpn in Azure. We have one at work used to connect to a few clients now that we are WFH. The openvpn image is selectable when provisioning a VM and you could leave the VM off unless you needed to use it.
