We need some form of home WiFi solution. The google one could tick some boxes because it’s a google assistant, and speaker too.

Is it any good as a mesh network? How do you work out how many you need ? Is it trial and error? Will the device connected to the router actually increase signal strength in that area of the house?

Is it any good as a speaker (say compared to a Anker Soundcore Boost)

These assistant things isn’t really a priority, but have we ever got to the bottom of google listing to everything you do? And actually after all the hype a few years, was it all just a fad?

Have one of these myself. A few things:

- Don't plug the main puck to you existing router, replace it and use your original broadband modem if you have one.

- We use four pucks and our house is not particularly big (4 bed mass produced box).

- It is very easy to set up.

- Some devices (particularly our Sky box) seems to randomly lose connection to the mesh. This is very annoying. Never had that issue with my old BT wifi router.

- Also doesn't play too well with our Sonos. Randomly can't connect to Sonos. Suspect it is due to everything being assigned dynamic IP addresses and interference with the Sonos mesh.

I've spent the money on the system now, so will persevere with trying to iron out its kinks but I wouldn't recommend it. If I had my time again, I'd try a different mesh system (Netgear mebbes).

interference with the Sonos mesh.

Unless you've absolutely specifically enabled it (Sonosnet) I think Sonos changed to using WiFi by default some time ago.
(You need to have a speaker physically attached to the router/mesh to make it work)

OP we have the original Google WiFi mesh and have 3 units pretty easily covering a fairly large 4 bed detached house (not modern build.... More "solid").

Rarely have any issue with connectivity.

Thanks for the responses. The only reason to choose the google unit is the speaker and google assistant.

Can anyone comment on the speaker quality ?
