Google has become quite demanding with regard to age verification these days. I only wanted to watch a pop music video. So which is the lesser of two evils?

1) credit card verification
2) passport or other photo ID verification
3) just not watch the video

What is the video? I can't say I'm ever in a position where I really, really have to watch one though. If you really, really need to, I'd probably go with CC verification. If you shop online, that is. If not, I'd wait until it was on the telly, or something.

Interesting I can't remember Google ever trying to verify my age. Assume it's a YouTube video, can you post a link to it as I'd like to see what happens.

Glen Miller. Google needs to verify viewers are over 90

never had that, are you sure it's a google thing?

edit: is this possibly on your phone and maybe it's requiring a payment?

If you're over 18 why do you want to watch popular music videos with parental advisories in the description? Are you certain you're old enough? 😉

It played straight away without further question for me.

Unfortunately.

Same for me. Is it simply a case you just need to be logged in to YouTube / google?

You know as much as anyone that one does not 'log in' to Google. One may possibly 'log out' of it, but that probably requires driving over your phone/changing banks/new identity and a gender reassignment to be sure. Even then they'll probably find you as MissCruiskeen and suggest a garden dungeon video that you'll end up watching.

Doesn't play for me but I am not logged in to you tube or google 🙂 so I assume thats it

You can log out of your google account and I do. I only ever log in if I need to use it which I haven't for a long time

I just tried going on to google and it asked me if I wanted to sign in

If you remove the watch?v= and replace with embed/, you’ll get a link that goes directly to the video without the rest of the YouTube site, and it’ll play full-width in your browser. So, for example, you would take this link:

youtube.com/watch?v=6LZM3_wp2ps

and change it to this:

youtube.com/embed/6LZM3_wp2ps

And you won’t have to log in. Alternatively, you can add nsfw before the youtube.com portion of the link:

nsfwyoutube.com/watch?v=6LZM3_wp2ps

This will take you to a different site to play the video, but it’s a bit faster to type in.

I am definitely signed in when I try to watch it. The only thing I can think of, is that I've never used Google Pay, nor ever added a payment method to the Google play store on my mobile phones. I usually create a new google account when I get a new phone LOL (despite keeping the same number duh). Never had a paid service from Google for anything actually. I never take the Use Google for signin option when signing up for other companies' services either. Thanks for the embed tips above, there's also youtube-dl, though that sometimes comes up against the age verification barrier too. I don't always signin to google either, some videos I can't watch until I've signed in, but some, like the one above, require additional age verification for some reason.

Thanks to dyna-ti’s nsfw amendment + OP link I’m now the proud owner of a requirement for yet more US-specific brain-bleach.

Also ... 240px?

youtube. A many suspendered-thing. I love it I hate it (not the OP video, I mean youtube/contributions in general and their effect on the world)
