Shame as its a fab day out. Brings in thousands to the local economy too.
Strong winds gusting to 40knots is probably the reason.
Gutted for all the ticket holders as its alot of money, and if you bough a 3 day ticket friday was perma rain so fun at all.

Blimey!

Thursday was sold out (which never happens) and the roads round here were carnage (I live nearby). I guess that was the smart folk getting a visit in before the rain and wind!

Really. I was there yesterday till 7pm. It was getting pretty wet mind and several cars were struggling to leave the car park (probably the real reason for cancellation TBF.

It's cancelled Saturday only. Saturday tickets unfortunately cannot be used for Sunday.
Fingers crossed it will be ok for us on Sunday. Gutted for those Saturday tickets holders

Pretty sure it will be car park carnage which is the reason for cancellation.  Thats normally what results in horse events getting cancelled.  If cars are going to get stuck, they'll be getting stuck going in and end up with the whole area grinding to a halt.

I assume it must be largely to do with the amount of trees over the area.

It’s unusual to get high winds when trees are in full leaf. Don’t want any squished people

And getting cars out of the car parks… but that doesn’t explain that they still intend to open tomorrow

Yeah, gutted as my son and I have tickets for today. Sensible decision though and no other option for the organisers at this time of year.

Awesome, DrP's ev hill climb challenge. I'm in. I might struggle to hit 30mph in the old van, but hey ev's usually win the hill climb nowadays.

As of now, 1000am, wrong decision imo.

Yes its blustery on the coast but nothing excessive. Zero rain today so far. Suns out, its warm with some cloud cover.
I blame the where there is blame there's a claim culture. This is the reward you get for sueing everyone left, right and centre.

I may change my mind after lunch, or after going through the washing machine during my afternoon windsurfing session but as of now... Be ok

A bucketlist event for me still not made it yet. Shame but I suppose the organisers dont want to risk fly gazebos hitting people/multi million pound cars. The weather gods are usually kind to Goodwood events too. Was frustrating watching some of the tiptoeing up the hill on yesterday would love to see the Radford given the proper beans

If only the organisers had the foresight to have hindsight .

And a De lorean equipped with a flux capacitor
Or a tardis
Or a crystal ball

The met office always makes the coastal forecast worse than reality over the weekend to put off joe public going out to sea in unsuitable inflatables.

Having said that, just nipped down the beach, yes its chuffing windy, and its forecast to get even stronger

You can’t be too careful these days, there are only so many ‘where there’s blame, there’s a claim’ lawyers out there you know.

This is my opinion too. It was less windy than this last week and big chunks of oak have been closing the roads here near goodwood. Nipped to the shops this morning and chose a longer route specifically to avoid the risk of big pieces of tree landing on my head. A neighbor was killed a couple of years ago.

I was near Gosport most of this morning and it was absolutely howling.

There are a lot of gazebos and temporary structures at FOS and the potential with 40+mph winds for some damage or injury presumably has to be factored in and documented in a risk assessment.

What they clearly couldn't do is open then find that the wind has picked up to the forecast 40+mph and have to try and clear the site. That's the bit people sometimes forget.

Just looked at the data on Chimet and gusts have been spiking at over 40kts - so about 50mph from mid morning.

Hindsight is, after all, 20:20 vision…

Over here in N. Wiltshire it’s been pretty gusty at times, particularly this morning. I’ve got no telly at the moment to check out local BBC news, so I don’t know if there’s been any real damage from downed trees or not, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Was in Brighton this evening and between the buildings on the seafront you can hardly walk.

As we got near Brighton a fire engine that had been following us turned it's lights on and overtook, a 200 year old grade II listed hotel on the seafront had just caught fire as we passed.  The wind has got hold of it and 4 hours later it's well alight, I expect it'll burn to the ground with the wind feeding it. 15 fire engines on scene.

I postponed my sail to Weymouth.  Gusting 30 knots in Southampton reckon that would have been 40kn at the Needles.  My fish and chips can wait till tomorrow!

Glad to hear you were here Thursday for a good day out Tony. Sorry for those that couldn’t enjoy it today. And i think the Sunday crowd should be alright. I’m one of the local crowd pleased that we host a great event (let’s not mention the local grumblers).
