Off to Whitstable this weekend without the children…
…apart from the obvious choices McDonalds and KFC (🤢🤮) where’s good to eat ???
Not curry,Chinese, pizza or gastro pub !!
Thanks in advance
Whitstable Oyster Company, lovely food (if you like seafood) and in an interesting building, you can see the oysters down below you too.
We had a real nice weejend without our kids a few years back. Stayed in one of the 'fisherman's hut' and was the weekend i was introduced to Espresso martinis on top of too many beers!
Birdies is the one everyone talks about but, despite moving here last summer, we haven’t gotten around to going there yet 🤣
The breakfast at the hotel continental is good.
Thanks so far, should have said I’m not keen on anything fishy !
Birdies is the one everyone talks about
Blimey, there’s a blast from the past! I’ve nothing useful to add as moved away from the area 30 years ago but I grew up next door in Herne Bay, my parents used to take us to Birdies for special occasions. Also, my mates dad used to own Beach Cafe and probably still does - cracking fry up there!
Harbour Street Tapas is very tasty.
We go here https://goo.gl/maps/rYvyGm6486jsU5Wc7 for brekkie after a Friday Night Ride to the Coast.
Decent grub, nice view.
We were local until recently.
The Sportsman at Sesalter is exceptional but you won’t get in!
In town Birdies, Samphire, Wheelers and Whitstable Oyster Co are all good.
A bit of a wildcard I’d throw in though is Cafe + Kitchen on Harbour street. It’s tiny, you’d easily walk past it. It’s mainly a cafe but does dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings…Or it did pre-covid anyway. Everything is cooked by one lady chef and she used to do a different theme each night from Caribbean to Thai to Korean. You’d only get a couple of options for each course so not great if you’re fussy but it was awesome and great value. Used to be BYO too but they stopped that. Still great value. That was our preferred place in town when we lived there. Great atmosphere. With it being so small, I’m not sure what they would be doing with Covid and how easy it would be to get in, but worth a look.
Caveat that all this is pre-covid views, not sure what’s happening now and we’ve moved away since.
Thanks for all the recommendations
Any last minute recommendations welcomed.

Head in to Canterbury and go to Cafe des Amis. Far nicer than anything we ever found in Whitstable in the 10 years we lived nearby.
Compasses at Crundale is exceptional if you don’t mind a drive. Reasonable prices too.
