I'm a bit out of touch with boozing around there but pubs that used to be good:
The Moon at Stoney
The Plough just aout of Hathersage on the Grindleford road.

One I've visited recently which is pleasant
Bulls Head at Foolow.

Three Stags over at Wardlow mires, best beer in the Peak but a little eclectic. Whippets, possibly ferrets and not for any one who dislikes country pastimes.

Check out the Quarries route and add on Curbar for a bit of climbing and descending. Damned fine little route. Great home made tea room in Eyam with requisite misspellings. I used to use the Three Stags c. 1972 when I'd been swinging around cliffs at Stoney, no-one seems to climb there now

The Barrell at Bretton...up a short green lane from the Hostel and about a mile along the road. Red Lion at Litton is also a good one.

We used to have breakfast with the bikers and truckers at Wardlow Mires caff, then a pint with the chickens and whippets in the Three Stags.

Saturday morning of champions!

Another vote for the Stags. It's just down the road, you can't miss it. On the right as you get to 1784. Leave your phones outside.

Norfolk Arms, good selection of beers and bike/walker friendly. It's on the road towards Sheffield from Hathersage

The Barrel at Bretton

another vote - possibly the best view from any pub in the Peak

Ah yes the Barrel. Nice place.
Stags? Nah. Real ale doesn't have to mean stinky pub. The place was rancid on the one occasion I visited.

The Barrel is excellent. If you want very decent but somewhat pricey food the Scotsmans Pack in Hathersage itself is very nice also.
