As above really, for job interviews and such. I'm pretty thin, so slim or skinny fit is preferred.
How do M&S, Topman etc shape up?

I'm a 38" chest, long arms and legs. (so, cyclist physique).

I found the M&S suits were cut for a beer gut.

Got a line end from Moss, £59 supposedly reduced from £200, not sure if it was or not but its fully lined so is decent enough quality.

If you're an odd size its worth looking at an outlet for something similar.

Went M&S in end and John Lewis for a shirt (there was a sale)

M&S suit was by the best fit for massive legs and tiny upper body

M&S are excellent quality and very well priced. If you go to a big store the range is huge too.

Topman suits always look a bit 'mobile phone salesman/third division footballer'...

You might want to up your idea of 'quality'!

OP - go and try them on. Different cuts fit different bodies and nothing is a substitute for trying them on. Whilst wearing a decent shirt. And the shoes you'll wear with the suit. With someone there to help you chec the fit (not tight across the shoulders and chest, sleeves long enough, trousers long enough etc etc).
Go to a few shops, try on a few different types. Suits are not the sort of thing you buy from anon advice or by mail order.

Get all my work stuff from Next. Reasonable cut, good price and seems to last well.

Isn't "Slaters" usually the answer to this question?

Not totally aware of your budget but I've often found T M Lewin a good balance between quality and price.

OK, I'll bite.

No, I don't want to. I wear a suit maybe twice a year, so I'm not going to spend any more. I have no interest in looking like I've just had a copy of GQ stuck up my botty.

I was answering the OP's question, the stores he has mentioned will sell cheap suits with un-lined trousers along side their better offerings.

M&S are a pretty good fit for tall & slim in their slim-fit range. The cut of their regular sizing in slim waist trousers isn't particularly flattering, especially with an extra long leg.

In-store sizes are generally limited. I order online for in-store delivery so I can try them for fit and return immediately if they aren't what I was looking for.

Biggest problem with M&S is finding a suitable style with the right size available. Quality is good in the suits costing ~£150-200.

Don't go anywhere near a topman suit.

M & S Slim fit (and slim fit shirts). Don't waste your time looking at the none slim fit stuff though.

might be worth seeing if you can get to an M&S outlet store rather than the highstreet. Got my last suit from Cheshire Oaks decent selection and a fair bit cheaper.

Different suits fit different shapes. Debenhams suff, specifically Jeff Banks fits be very well, Next stuff I just can't get on with at all. I've also got on well With Austin Reed as well, some are very corporate but there are some nice ones.

Lewin's and Charles Thyritt are worth a look as well, bit more expensive though.

Surprised for the reccomendations for M&S mentioning tall and long legged as they don't tend to do trousers longer than 33" inside leg.

NEXT all the way - cut and fit is a little more contemporary without being so fashionista as to be out of style in a year's time. Slim fit/cut is particularly nice, as are their slim fit shirts.

Have a couple myself, for the money I wouldn't wear anything else.

You can order 35" inside leg - usually takes 3 or 4 days to come through.

I have two M&S suits and one Next one. The M&S ones are a lot better and they have 20% off today.

My current favourite suit though is from Primark for £40 and it is a perfect fit and looks very good.

To think I used to buy Aquascutum.... bloody kids.

If you have a Slaters near you then I'd try there. They normally have some knowledgeable staff who can offer advice.

They also have a 'free alterations' for the lifetime of the suit policy so you won't have to pay for any adjustments required.

I wear a suit maybe twice a year, so I'm not going to spend any more.

So you're happy looking like you wear a cheap suit on those occasions - good for you. The OP is talking about job interviews etc so I'd think he wants to look his best. The paltry sum of money 'saved' on buying anything unlined will be better invested in getting a suit that doesn't look so cheap and will last that bit longer.

Really ❓

M&S Sartorial range look pretty decent, and seem to be a better cut for those of us without beer guts.

Genuinely if you don't look at the label you are fine. I am wearing it now feeling very smartly dressed.

I guess the reflective sheen of the manmade fibres would distract one from looking at the label anyway!

If I wore a suit daily it'd need to be cheaper - but as I own one suit (to rule them all) I went for Hugo Boss, half price sale mind.

It still looks new about 4-5 years later and as I only have one I wanted it to be a good one! Don't wear it often though - special occasions only 🙂

Had my Next Tailored fit suit for a year and a bit, worn daily. One jacket, two pairs of trousers. Nice cut, Slim fit would probably be a bit tight on my thighs.

Slaters Menswear. Try it. You won't be disappointed. The Ralph's Room stuff includes the likes of Aquascutum (are they still going) and Van Gils for £200-300 including the alterations. Alterations to legs, waist and seat make a big difference to how good a suit looks.
