lol, nothing new... we did this at our school because of the same rules... girls allowed skirts, boys not allowed shorts. then inspired by the complete lack of success in changing school policy we tried the "girls dont have to wear ties but we do" thing and that was a bit more successful, ties optional for boys in the summer.

If I had worn a skirt at that age i would not have lived to see another year, and if anyone had spotted the first stirrings of an erection I doubt I would have survived the day.

Well I think there is lots of fuss 'cos it takes a young lad of 12 plenty of guts to wear a skirt. Wearing a girls skirt is nothing like wearing national dress and especially for a young lad.
