They're all distinctive 😉 😆
No love for Sandy Denny? Sadly long dead, but still ..
Thea Gilmore
Taylor Momson
I mentioned Sandy Denny. Fundamental.
Apologies if she has already been mentioned but Linda Thompson
From another tradition entirely Sheila Stewart
Clare Teal is worth a listen, especially her earlier material
With the caveat that it sounds good but not amazing on a typical cheapo sounddock/iphone or whatever, but get Alison Krauss onto a proper hi-fi and WOW, that girl can sing!
😆
Not seen St Vincent mentioned yet....
Not just a great voice, but an outstanding guitarist too
Should have done my list one above the other, easier to read, didn't want to take up too much space.
St Vincent is there, as is Sea Of Bees, and Thea Gilmore, who's done an album of Sandy Denny songs at the request of Sandy's estate. She left some unfinished songs and lyrics, so Thea and her husband Nigel were asked to finish them, do arrangements and record them, released as the album Keep On Singing: The Songs Of Sandy Denny
Beautiful album, too.
