You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I was out bimblin on the bike the golf course still busy with a few foursomes old guys in diamond jerseys with the Jags,Audi's,BMWs in the car park. I wonder what it will take to sink in, they are all close together at the tee. Does the one glove keep them safe ? Or am I over reacting ?
If they're close together or come close to others on the way to the course, then they're idiots. However, four people 'could' play golf together without getting overly close.
Certainly no closer than the hordes of 'non golfers' out in National park hotspots..
Golf is my main vaguely sporting activity these days ever since arthritis stopped me cycling. There’s a course five minutes from my house. It’s not a posh one or a busy one and I’d say 80% of the time I play (a) alone and (b) don’t encounter other people on the course beyond waving from a distance. I’m confident that I could go there and not get within 100 yards of anyone else the whole time. It’s a very positive activity for me both for physical and mental health, and time to myself. But I still don’t know if I should carry on doing it at the moment.

Yes, and possibly a bit of a chip on your shoulder too maybe ?
If they are not using the clubhouse (probably closed anyway) not getting too close (perfectly possible with a game like golf) and driving there alone then I don't see a huge problem.
It's good exercise and people need some time outside.
I used to play a lot before the kids and still on some mailing lists including my old club.
They’re taking precautions such as raising the depth of the cups so you don’t have to all reach into the hole to retrieve your ball as the cup is shallow enough not too, advocating not removing the pin, keeping apart etc.
I think that it can be done safely but like lots of things, will rely on individuals doing the right things consistently so not without risk.
I don't have a chip on my shoulder as I used to play as a bairn but East of Scotland is over run with private courses . I sometimes wear lycra and over the years get used to the cheeky remarks about that. Just think all four standing at the tee, I bet non of that in going on just now in Italy France and Spain. It's like the camper vans away up to remote Scotland buying their bog rolls etc. Will it get through to them
As a kid I used to play with my Dad - we'd see each other on the tee, and then at the green, and in between it was very much a solo pursuit!

Obviously not. I just thought it was odd to mention what cars you imagined they may be driving or what they wearing as if was relevant to the risk.
We were sat overlooking a golf course this morning and there must have been 50 blokes aged 60+ wandering around in groups of 4 or 5 (close together).
Total disregard for the situation we are in
Love a golf course, my wee 5 mile local run takes in 2 of the most famous golf courses in the game, paths right through them.
They're beautiful at sunset and sunrise.
And because they're both pretty exclusive, there's never anyone on them.
but East of Scotland is over run with private courses
Not sure what this has got to do with anything.
Anyway, significantly less risky than going to buy a pint of milk and a loaf of bread.
As already said, maximum of 4 people, rarely - if ever - in anything vaguely ressembling close proximity, no sharing of touchable surface (door handles, baskets, trolleys, etc.).
Golf clubs have closed their doors but have supplied new rules for those wanting to continue to play.
My ENT consultant wants to play doubles tennis later... He's firmly of the opinion that's fine also.
Over reaction.

Me too!
My golf club has sent this message out. It seems proportionate to me.
Dear Member
As you know, following last night’s update, we have closed the Clubhouse and Pro Shop but for the time being the course will remain open. This may change in the days ahead as the Government issues further guidance but for now members and guests can continue to use the course for social golf and the booking system will operate as normal.
It is our responsibility to properly respond to the Government’s social distancing measures and to ensure the course is safe for members and for our greens team. If you choose to play, then we ask that you strictly adhere to the following rules:
• You may only play if you have booked a tee time online. Do not come to the course if you do not have a booking.
• Do not arrive for your game unnecessarily early and leave promptly when you have finished.
• Do not mix with other groups either on the course or in the car park. There should never be a gathering of more than four people.
• When on the course keep a safe distance of at least two metres between yourself and your playing partners and avoid all contact, including handshakes.
• When on the greens do not remove the pin.
• Only pick up your own ball, and only ever handle your own clubs and equipment.
When considering whether to play please be aware that there is only the very limited toilet facility available at the 10th hole.
The clubhouse is fully closed and will be undergoing a deep clean.
One of our Professional team will be on the course each day to monitor play and deal with any queries which may arise.

On the Golf Course
A reminder that we have made changes on the course to minimise points of multiple contact:
• All bunker rakes have been removed – please smooth over any footprints
• Benches and bins have been removed – please take away all litter
• Ball washers are not available
• Ball scoops have been removed from the burns
• Hole cups have been turned upside down to allow players to recover their ball without reaching down into the cup
In these unprecedented times we are doing everything we can to keep our course safe for members and for our greens team.
Thank you for your continued support.
Quite right donald....I played twice this weekend and we were careful to keep our distance from each other and even managed a BYO couple of beers after....6 ft apart.
I lot more risk walking around a supermarket.
My local course was rammed with people stood shoulder to shoulder at the Tee
