Hi

I need to get a car and after years of buying virtually new cars I simply can't justify it at the moment.

Seems like loads of Golfs bung on a load of miles pretty quick which I get as they probably are going up and down motorways but does anyone have any experience with them, mileage not an issue if maintained etc.

Tempted with the switch to Petrol too although I do like how diesels drive.

I know stuff wears out but I drove a friends 65 GTD with 80k and it felt like new!

TIA

We had a 2.0 GT TDI - can't remember the milage but up there. It came from a friend's company and it was great.
This was about 10 years ago though.

I've bought a £400 2004 Golf GT TDI runabout with 187k miles and it drives like a car with less than 20k on it. I think it's been mapped at some point in it's life and the EGR is blanked off (hence EML) but it pulls like a train and does 60mpg over a 50mile 70mph motorway run.
Brilliant car, doesn't feel leggy or baggy other than a few cosmetic things.

Got a TSi now. Bought at 8k miles in 2012 now 78k. Even though I’ve saved up for an prestigious motor just cannot justify getting rid of it. Excellent car.

We had a 2.0tdi gt which totally changed my perceptions of VW quality. Various things went wrong and as well as dpf issues. Had done just over 100k when a rod went through the engine on the A1. Never again...

Our TSI (in a Leon, not Golf or Polo) has short service intervals for a modern motor. 8000 miles. Fine for us but I'd be checking the history on an older one. Cambelt is 60,000. Great engine though.

Mate at work bought a diesel with 140k miles for 50, he’s put another 100k on it and still uses it.
Not sure on modern ones but it was suspension bushes and rubber bits that cost on older high milers.

I've got an Octavia estate with the 1.4tsi 150bhp motor and it's brilliant 70k on mine over 5 years from new.
