You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So my wife has said she wants a treadmill for her birthday, she's not exactly a fitness nut but I'm not going to stand in her way. I've no idea what to buy, budget up to £400, is that realistic? Ideally want something of reasonable quality which might have a resell value if she doesn't take to it. Anything to look out for, any must have features, anything to avoid. Needs to be foldable. Recommendations greatfully received.
At that price I’d be looking at second hand (although they are at a premium these days). We have one that my wife and kids use (I prefer to run outside) that cost £300 quite a few years ago from EBay. It’s beginning to give up the ghost a bit now but a reasonable upgrade is around £2k new (ie with shock absorbing rollers, incline, decent top speed).
This is like the one we have

Very good rob, took me awhile to get that. Thanks John, that's actual local to me.
This come round every couple of months.
I bought MrsB a '£2k' treadmill that lasted 15 years before parts availability killed it.
I then bought a second hand '£2k' treadmill off eBay for £150. It's a disposable thing as I expect the same parts shenanigans come the time. They don't (didn't) fetch much s/h as people soon get fed up with the reality of running, use them as a clothes rack for a bit then just want to get rid. Transport is usually an issue as you'll obviously need a van.
The other option is s/h pro (ex gym) kit. This might help ensure spares availability which it might well need if it's been hammered in a commercial gym.
Good luck with the 'I'll buy you a s/h treadmill for your birthday love, it's the logical choice' conversation... 🙃
