You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
pick up from Brucewee's bollocks thread, and the normally excellent NHS
It seems everyone bashes the NHS, but since COVID I have had two face to face Drs appointments within 24 hours of calling and two more telephone appointments the same day.
Hmmm.... saw physio a year ago with a meniscus tear but was told it wasn't bad enough and to manage it with ice and painkillers as necessary. Two weeks ago it popped as I ran over the road through a gap in traffic, like being shot. It's taken 2 weeks to get an appointment, I'm on a borrowed crutch as it keeps giving way if walking downhill, that's why I was in there today not showing my knackers to the assembled unwell (you need to read Bruce's thread for this to make sense)
Yep, it's properly gone now and will probably need arthroscopy, but need an MRI to confirm type and extent.
Expect an MRI appointment in 10-12 weeks. And then probably 4-6 months to get it done acc to the (apologetic) physio.
A year ago it was manageable, and I was still taking the dog for long hill walks, doing bootcamp but reduced running...... I am seriously pissed off / depressed by the prognosis now, could be best part of 12 months including rehab.
Not bashing the NHS but this is not how it should be - and I know where the blame is.
I do have an emergency fund but that's earmarked for the boy's top surgery. Will post another thread, anyone with experience of going abroad to get surgery done (google says £5K in the UK, about £1700 in Lithuania for example)
I was quoted less than £5K for an arthroscopy. Works Occupational Health advised me to get at least three quotes and haggle.
I was surprised to see one of the majors did a price match guarantee. Sadly I did not exactly meet the price match criteria, but haggled anyway and got nearly 20% off.
NB - the other thing I learnt was to ask for a ‘full package price’ so that all pre and post op stuff, including things like physio’ were included in the price. However, the initial consultant appointment was ‘extra’ and had to be done before a firmnquote would be supplied
PS - If you are anywhere near Romsey, I can point you towards and excellent Physio who believes only 20%ish of torn Miniscuses/Menisci need surgery. Sadly I was in the 20%
