Looking at getting a camera to strap to my handle bars but no idea whats hot and what not, go pro hd hero 2 footage looks good but the 3 is out now so is that worth the extra money or are there better models out there for similar money?

My son has just bought a gopro hero 3 silver. Great bit of kit.Wifi allows preview/remote use on a suitable mobile/tablet.3 is more compact than the 2. There is also the 3+ out now - better battery life and a few other things at the "black" level. Black gives faster frame rate if you're going to do serious slow motion at 1080p. If it's just action I would say the silver is fine and use the difference for mounts.
Have a look at the JVC XA2. Similar spec to a gopro silver but robust without the case and with a built in screen. It also has conventional tripod mounts on the bottom and side, providing masses of mounting options. Takes a full sized SD card too, so you can put a 128gig card in if you want. Really happy with mine.
