Gmail spam, why now?

I've always received spam, but Gmail has always done an amazing job dealing with this, auto removing the vast majority.

However in the last few weeks I have started receiving loads that is not being caught. It's all of the same type.

A subject like 'confirmation receipt..', a to and cc address that is the same but not me. I presumeably am BCCd and some image is attached.

I either use Gmail to mark as spam or unsubscribe, but they keep coming.

Any ideas why and what I can do?

I'm not sure there is anything you can do.  I get a lot of fake parcel messages that are all the same except a bunch of random codes in the subject line that I guess are designed to fool Gmail anti spam.  It does seem in the end that Google work out how to handle them and they disappear until the next thing gets through.  I just report a few but don't bother with all of them, i just delete

edit: just checked and my spam folder is pretty much all fake parcel notices and I haven't seen any in my inbox for a week or two.  I'm guessing that Google are now on top of that one

Dunno but similar us happening to me, coming from not quite my own address and claiming I've won stuff.

Keep logging as spam and the AI will update to recognise them. Its an ongoing battle with the spammers learning how to get through filters and the companies/logic updating the filters to block them. I use gmail and no noticed any significant change in the last few weeks.

I had to check my spam folder recently to look for something that had been blocked, and it turns out there's absolutely loads of women that want to meet me for no-strings sex, and I've been missing out. Cheers Google.

Can't say I've noticed any difference - Gmail has always been excellent at weeding out spam for me.

If you are unsubscribing by clicking an 'unsubscribe' link at the bottom of the spam emails, then the best case scenario is you are just confirming to them that your email address is live and they will then keep sending spam, and worst case you are following an unknown link to somewhere that is (or does) something  dodgy, resulting in worse.

That's a good point.

I'll stick with the spam reporting. At least these are dumbass spam and easy to spot.

On the flipside, Gmail has just started filtering out stuff that was hitherto and still isn't spam. Stuff its been allowing through for years.

Someone's been dicking around...

One of the reasons GMail appear to do a good job of filtering spam is that they're not shy about binning legitimate stuff too. Speaking as someone who spends a lot of time trying to get normal, legitimate mail delivered to GMail, I'm always amazed at just how much they reject.

No problems here I do get a lot of spam but Gmail bins 99% of it for me.
