You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi all,
There's 5 of us heading up to watch the XC world champs on Saturday and taking bikes up to do a couple rides.
I'm after route ideas bearing in mind that some of Glentress will be shut. After cross country style riding probably do 3-40km on Friday and then 50-60km on Sunday.
@singlespeedstu suggested some good routes a while back that might suit. Despite living in Peebles I always draw a blank on what to recommend.
FC Scotland website basically says up to market 4 is closed then a few other random sections also shut elsewhere. I was trying to get to starting point of Buzzard nest riding up from Peebles , then join main trail.
Following this because in similar position but looking for shorter workable route on red and black trails
Aside from the Marathon, there's very little of Glentress closed, unfortunately its the main entry route for most.
Janets Brae or Soonhope from Peebles are the next best options to get to the trails, but avoid parking on the Soonhope/Hydro lane- its not popular with residents and is actually the HGV/coach entrance for the Hydro, so prone to access issues from bad parking.
For the bigger ride on sunday, I'd suggest picking bits of the marathon route. It's a good way to find some lesser known parts of the valley.
+1 the Marathon route, those bits outside of GT and also take a look at Gypsy Glen.
Ah I can look at a riders Strava for the marathon route. Good idea

Officially all of the Glentress trails are closed but follow the previous advice and you should be fine.

As @intheborders mentioned, put Gypsy Glen on the list. On your way into Peebles you can divert to Cademuir and do some of the trails there - they're not waymarked but Trailforks has them.
The Southern Upland Way over to Yair (which the Marathon route used) is a nice XC option too.
This should be useful, map of the closed areas...
Trails were only closed for the marathon yesterday.
A nice ride here for you.
Starting and finishing in Inners.
Takes in the Gypsy Glen and then up to the top of GT and out over the boundary wall and along the open hill up to Lee Pen and back down into Inners.

I'd offer to show you round on a few rides but I've got other plans for this weekend.
I can also email you the GPX for that ride if the link doesn't work.
Yeah that's the one
There is a GPX of the marathon route here.
Good suggestion would be to ride the first half, everything south of the A72. It is a cracking route, taking in old school marathon routes. Will keep you away from crowds, rising the same as the pro's.
I did the first half of the UCI marathon route today. Lovely day out: a couple of the climbs were churned up but made for some sideways pedalling.
There is a GPX file on the UCI website if you have a garmin or similar.
The only thing I want to add is that the forestry have started felling at Elibank forest today. I met the chap installing the no-entry net / sign. This made getting access to that descent difficult.
