Same old thing, if it's not Kayne, It's Jay Z or Dolly Parton, or Metallica's Hunting

There are some great songs in his back catalogue

You know that person who says:

'Glastonbury was great back when ... (Insert stuff about awesome times in tiny fields with baked nekkid/semi-nekkid/ironically-garbed/genuinely out-there persons co-witnessing impromptu awesomeness from Bulgarian accordion orchestras dressed as 3 piece suites) ... but now it's gotten like a beer commercial all fake and stuff...' ?

I became that person :-/

Probably the biggest star in music today. Not my cup of tea at all, but why not have him as headliner at the worlds biggest music festival? It's not like there won't be 40 other things all competing for your attention (assuming the haters are actually going to Glasto?)

Yes I am.

I will certainly take in some of his set but mooch off to find something else more interesting.

I always thought he was okay but nothing spectacular, but his recent absurd outburst about Beck has turned me completely against him.

I presume many people would prefer some good old dad rock

I was hoping for Florence & The Machine or Lana Del Rey headlining something somewhere so still have fingers crossed for another night or another stage. I also had a dream that Pink Floyd were reforming (as in Waters & Gilmore) and headlining. I would have squirted on the spot had that been true.

I'd like to have seen Underworld on that, there, main stage..........or
, perhaps Lulu.

Lana del Rey
I would imagine that her inability to sing her own songs live has ruled her out of any headline gigs.

I was at Latitude in 2010 when Florence and the Machine headlined the main stage. I watched The National instead. They were ace.

I assume that was a lesser example to benchmark his great songs against? 😉

Isn't Glastonbury now just the one weekend a year where the achingly hip areas of London become temporarily bearable?.

Kanye would therefore seem to be the obvious choice

Every year at around this time a load of spoilt brat "hippies" with a complete inability to appreciate that their opinions are not the same as everyone else's opinions complain about the fact that someone they don't like is headlining the Saturday at Glastonbury.

Probably the biggest star in music today

In his own head maybe. Probably most talked about, but his musical output is guff nowadays. Definitely has a couple of crackers in the back catalogue though

Is it really important enough to be unhappy about? A headliner's just one band and there's enough other stuff to do. Never really understood people who do festivals just for the headliners.

I remember when Glastonbury used to get stick for putting on acts that were too old for the audience.

Now it's the other way round.

Couldn't pay me to go anyway.

Apart from the fact that Kanye is a muppet I generally don't see what the big fuss over the headliner is. When I went we never really bothered with the headliners anyway...as there is always plenty of other options available.

To me Kanye is a logical step from Jay-Z, U2, Coldplay, Metallica.... a big name to appeal to the masses. Anyone at the festival has the choice to go to another stage. Anyone at home can turn the channel over. I will be curled up at home pressing the red button in order to see hopefully Mogwai, Beck or Vampire Weekend headline one of the other stages.

I mostly agree although choice of headliners does send a signal about the kind of festival it is and the kind of people it will attract.

Mmm, does that work for glastonbury? To be fair I've pretty much ruled out friday of t in the park because the bill is designed to attract bellends so I can hardly argue the point 😆

I simply think his very recent previous should have disallowed him from being involved.

I can only assume the first choice didn't sign.

I for one will be in Shangri-La, but shall greatly enjoy watching slowmo replays of him getting bottled of stage when i get home 🙂

Exactly. If you're plonked in front of the Pyramid stage every evening you're doing it wrong.

Saw Jay-Z at IoW, a couple of years after his Glastonbury performance. Quite possibly one of the best live acts I've seen.

Eavis is a shrewd cookie, I think he wants to plant crops in the field next year. Putting West on the main stage is the cheapest, most expedient way to ensure all the turf is stripped of and piled nicely for removal.

I think Micheal Evis unfulfilled act is Led Zeppelin. I would definitely go if he pulled that off. I get free tickets every year, but give them away(to my daughter now). Not because I hark on about the good old days (pre police presence), I just enjoy doing other stuff at that time of year and don't enjoy large crowds. Infact, the last time I went I stayed pretty much in the green field!
My Dad still goes, been every year since it started when he's been in the country and loves it. He makes sure he sees all sorts of music, not just guitar driven stuff that he likes.

Oasis are unlikely to be reforming for Glastonbury, despite the brothers actually talking to each other.
Well, until one of them gets pissed and lamps the other.
And Fleetwood Mac are playing IoW.
I've got tickets. 😀

btw there's that much going on at glastonbury it doesn't matter who's billed as the headliners, think I saw the headliners once or twice the 2 times I went down.

now that would be brilliant.

I couldnt name or recognise a "song" of his. Just seems to be a constant string of "news" articles about him and I couldnt care less.

I know just what you mean, I'm the same about Foo Fighters. I'll just have to either have a listen to them and maybe find something new to me, or perhaps just find something I think I'll like better.

There's also the wonderful irony of the man who released Golddigga now being married to Kim Kardashian.
