Watched Lorde's set last night. Lovely bit of melodic synth-pop.

I spent a lot of time at The Glade and Glade Dome over the weekend. Max Cooper and Daniel Avery B2B Imogen were my personal highlights as I am very much an electronic music fan. I wasn't going to bother with Leftfield as I've seen them plenty of times before but found myself there and was glad I stayed for them. The Prodigy finished my weekend perfectly and I wandered back to my tent a very happy man.
Was away at the weekend at Duncfest, so I’m just catching up now.
Alanis, Pulp, Scissor Sisters and Prodigy were all excellent. Will trawl through the iPlayer and try and find Gary Numan, Leftfield, Wet Leg and a few other.
Have always thought that Rod was a bit shit with his fake Scottishness and rapey lyrics. His politics just underline the fact that I don’t care for him.
You probably won't like the show then. Only a few classics telling stories about other people (eg an utterly euphoric performance of More Pressure), the set was heavy with the new introspective stuff (which I find very powerful, but it's very different work, I agree).
Only bothered with Osees ,Katy J Pearson, Joy Crookes on catchup. No brian jonestown massacre on iplayer? I'll try and watch a bunch of people I've not heard of but after the festival ends I've moved on!
Osees' set was very garage rocky and not so much the psych sounds like Sticky Hulks for example.
I saw CMAT on Friday (on TV) she was amazing. What a voice and great songs

Just watched Lucy Dacus on iplayer. Fantastic set, I don't know too many of her songs but it was captivating. Tomorrow's work will be themed by her albums 😁
The problem I had with Olivia Rodrigo was that I watched her set immediately after Raye's and her voice holds only a fraction of one average candle by comparison.
Very true. But also a bit unfair… Raye’s voice was amazing; OR’s very normal. Anyway, both had great bands. Robert Smith duets also lovely.

I'm reassured to hear less than perfect voices from big stages. There's so much beefing up goes on which is understandable on a platform in front of millions. Not miming (usually) but most performers now have ear things in to help sync with various enrichments of the sound. Not Neil Young but then he always sang songs in a shaky voice.
Anyway it's pop. Who cares about authenticity? OR's main co-writer and producer has also had 1bn streamed hits with Taylor Swift and others. Not saying OR doesn't have creative input but she's not Billy Eylish. It's an industry project. She was a Disney protégé from an early age alongside Sabrina C the frothy blonde to her er deep and interesting dark, with supposed beef over some bloke... Which is where I imagine Bobby Smith was dragged in by the management, to reinforce the dark vs light credentials.

Yeah, listened to them after your recommendation last week and am now slightly obsessed! Gutted to find they played in Blackpool earlier this year, probably a missed opportunity to see them in a good little venue, they seem to have a bit of traction round them now!
As an aside, also only recently picked up on the lambrini girls, also excellent!

It wasn't quite Doechii level swearing but it was a lot. The number of adoring 8-12 year olds in the audience highlighted it. It just seemed out of kilter for a pop princess.
My daughter is 12 and is, I believe, a fan. I'm sure she hears plenty at school (and some at home) but it's not what I'd expect from music aimed at her. I must listen to a bit of the recorded stuff and see whether it was just the passion of the moment or if it runs through everything.
And then get over it. lol

As far as the sweary pop princesses that have come to the fore over the last decade, I'm not sure they make a lot of difference to the outcome - my kids have been full on 24/7 fans of Ms Rodrigo, XCX, Peters (Maisie), Eilish, Lorde and the many many others since 'before they blew up' as they keep reminding me and neither they or their friendship groups swear any more than I'd expect young adults to swear - in fact less than me! When they were younger around 15-16 they never swore and they listened to a lot of sweary music.
I think some kids have always sworn more than others and its got a lot more to do with many more external factors than the music.
Having said that its striking when my kids listen to pop diva's music aimed at them of a decade before such as Florence ATM, Lady gaga, early taylor Swift etc there is virtually no swearing and far more wholesome lyrics so its definitely a thing.
Apart from Lana Del Rey - she's always been a potty mouth!

Love Get Down Services, saw them last year at Clwb in Cardiff (small room sold out) then again their this year (big room sold out), I wouldn't call them pub rock, there set has some heavy techno influences for the most part, they've really honed their festival sound over the past year - with all the crap in the world it's just nice to have a couple of decent lads not take everything too seriously and just get the crowd going a bit daft on a random Wednesday night, I think we really need some of that right now.

Have watched Wet Leg, Loyle Carner, Busta Rhymes, Alanis Morisette, Prodigy, Kneecap, Skepta, Kae Tempest and Amyl and the Sniffers.
Kneecap were ace. Amyl and the Sniffers double ace. Wasn't that impressed with Prodigy. I've seen them many times though.

I found Goat's set on the iplayer yesterday - definitely recommended if you like funky psych rock. Didn't play enough from the first album but I'll forgive them that.
