We'll be driving down to London soon and normally would stop at Teabay when heading south. I was wondering if there is anywhere else on the way that is a nice stop for an hour or so. Probably a bit further south, but north of Birmingham? Willing to take a bit of a detour obviously.
I have stopped at Garstang a couple of years ago - some lovely cafes and a Booths supermarket (posh Northern Waitrose) and a nice marina for canal boats. It was the UK's first Fairtreade town IIRC. Get off the M6 and Junction 33 and back on via the M55 and Junction 32. It's a few miles of A road either side of the town to the motorway.
Nip off the M6 @ Garstang, but head up to Beacon Fell... Stunning scenery, lovely place for a quick walk or even a ride, coffee shop there too for refreshments, and all only a few miles from the M6. If you've got more time, head further into the Forest of Bowland... Absolutely stunning area!
Many thanks. I've also got a suggestion of Lymm. All seem to be ideal.
