Viper is brilliant. Really hams it up!!

Yep, he wasn't a wrestler before was he?

6 year old got me off the hook with “SHE’S TRYING TO BUM SHUFFLE HER OFF!”

but the male winner seemed a bit of a bellend eh?

Not just me hoping for a classic travalator fail then.

Finally managed to watch it with the kids. They seem engaged and want to watch it so it may become a Saturday night staple.

I'm not too sure about the new games though. The one where the Gladiators attempt to knock the contenders off the bridge using their crotches and bums while the contender tries to keep hold of their ball seemed a bit weird.

I also didn't understand the power button game. It seems like once the gladiators get the contender down they have to release them at which point they just jump up and hit the button. It would make more sense if they had to go back outside the circle once they'd been brought down.

Apart from that the gladiators seem decent. I reckon Viper needs a bigger repertoire than just mean mugging and not being very good at the games. Legend could end up being the new Wolf. My kids are definitely booing him already.

Sabre doing a decent job of asking the age old question, is it possible to be attractive whilst being from Dundee?

I reckon it had a decent start but it'll get better once it figures itself out.

Oh, I also loved the 'facts' in the Gladiators stats.

'Diamond can deadlift 200kg which is more than a baby elephant!'

‘Diamond can deadlift 200kg which is more than a baby elephant!’

I loved that too!

One of them was something like “gladiator 1 can run as fast as a car travelling at 25.6mph”.

I pointed out to Mrs ColP that could be shortened to “gladiator 1 can run at 25.6mph”

Isn't the obvious question "how much can a baby elephant deadlift?".

Or as I tell my kids, 'Nitro can run as fast as me if I was running at 25.6mph!'

No follow up questions allowed.

Intended watching 30mins of it with the kids last night before bed. Ended up watching the whole thing and them having a later bedtime - they enjoyed it thoroughly. Youngest already identifying Gladiators on sight before their names were announced.

Of course, both kids now want to enter Gladiators and be an actual Gladiator. It's like my youth all over again 😀

Worst part was the 'hilarious' Bradley Walsh & Co. Terrible.

Watched most of it last night, very much the same feeling as the original. I didn't think Bradley Walsh's son was a very good presenter though.

Good one today, pretty hard hitting stuff during the Male Powerball. The grid game thingy though was a bit rubbish.

We thought the grid game was pretty good, bit more tactics involved. Gauntlet looks kinda pointless and poor though. Loved it again tonight!

Great episode! Better games this time I thought, loved the return of The Wall. You’d have to be a miserable bugger not to enjoy this 😂

Your heart has got to sink when you get Giant on the pugil sticks 🤣

Watched last week's tonight and good to see Kerry in it. That was cool.

The killer line for me was the 'double-team' moment on the bridge one with the dangling gladiators. Wife and I wet ourselves laughing. Kids asked why. We had to make something up.

It was often a walkover for the contenders if they were quick, which everyone seemed to be tonight! Also possibly all the gladiators just need a bit more practice!

Been asking the same question. The game looks the same so either the gladiators are worse, or the competitors are better? People used to get absolutely hammered and/or thrown right out of the sides playing that back in the day

My better half reckons the channel they're running down in Gauntlet is wider than it used to be.

Yeah, our 6 year old and his pal barely made it to the end of the first game before they hit the pause button and just spent the rest of the evening wrestling and pummeling each other with cushions. They eventually forgot gladiators was even on 😂

Good one today, pretty hard hitting stuff during the Male Powerball.

Wasn't Apollo an ex-pro rugby player? The red contestant just got repeatedly slammed!

Lightning was always my teenage fave. I was ambivalent of Alan partridge ‘s fave, Jet

As a 11year old boy I got to meet Lighting. Dressed in her gladiator gear... I got a hug... With my short stature there was a fair amount of breast pressed into my face.

I had actually forgotten that until now.

We thought that the trench in Gauntlet was different too. Wider and shallower perhaps.

Disappointed that nobody has gone researching old Gladiators videos yet to find out for certain. Or did everyone just get stuck at the Jet vs Lightning conundrum?

Is it me or does it feel alot more cut price.

The wider shots seem more like a conference centre thanast time and the walshes are a totally bizarre choice.

Also will the tennis ball canons come back?

Enjoyed ep2, some good battles - but Giant and the red contender with the pugil sticks seemed a comical mismatch.

I did cringe a couple of times, but mainly at a couple of the contenders being cheesy AF.

Won't stop me tuning in again next week.

Is Sabre the new Jet? Asking for a friend.

Might be Diamond. More research required though.

My toddler loves it, his only memory of this weeks episode is Viper elbowing the microphone.

Agreed that Gauntlet seems easier this time around. Travellator looks more difficult, I think before it started at floor level, but now there is a foot or so of pad before the moving belt and this transition seems to catch most out.

Male Blue contestant took a face full of the balance beam too!

My main bug bear is Clattenburg having a stopwatch around his neck and not using it!

I'm not sure but I think they slowed the Travelator down after the first woman contender had had a couple of goes. Not sure though.

If that's the case it seems a bit unfair because she had just knackered herself trying to get up it at full speed and then then next woman was arriving to a reduced speed Travelator slightly fresher.

I remember they used to slow it down if someone had already won and the other person was clearly too knackered to make it up at full speed.

They did slow the travelator down for the first lady which as said is very unfair as the other lady was about to take her turn.

I watch it with my sixteen year old daughter but I sometimes think that having brought up a daughter has made me more of a feminist than her. All four presenting roles are males, three white middle aged men and some ill looking bloke who got there via the gift of nepotism. It just diminishes the program for me.

We definitely need answers about Travelator-gate (as nobody is calling it).

I'd rather have seen the red woman win, but the blue one was clearly far superior at the final challenge.

Viper must be fuming about being given those useless 'gloves' on the gauntlet.

Might as well be using a pair of those giant foam fingers the audience have to try and stop the contestant.

Kerry is a Scottish mountain biking champion apparently. Anyone know her?

I know I'm a week out of date but I rode with Kerry in her very first days moving over to MTB from moto. She's a proper talent with a complete natural feel for getting a bike in the air. No way I'd keep up with her nowadays. I think she was eleven times British motocross champion and all that experience came through to the bike. Great character too.

I havent watched it, but i know Sabre (Sheli McCoy).

Mrs SSS said, to me 'You know Sheli, shes in Gladiators'!

She used to showjump when my son showjumped, and her mum can still be seen (heard) commentating at equestrian events. She was only a wee lass then. And this wasnt Dundee 😀 it was in central Fife

Week two kids more into it than the first week, I think it'll find its feet. I think the Beeb has got the timing right on this reboot, the Sky one was too soon, most people that were my age (i.e around 10 the first time round) will have kids about that age now so ripe for proper nostalgia.

Sabre though, death by snu snu comes to mind. Oh yes.

Been enjoying watching this with the kids. Quarter-finals started at the weekend, was a shame to see one of the contenders pull out because of an injury.

Was not expecting someone new to jump in and take his place. Wesley was a good replacement, but I feel it should have been someone who competed previously in the series.

Agreed about Wesley, I felt the fastest losers got robbed - but he won me over. Hope Finlay makes it through to semis as fastest loser as well.

Anyone else think he could be a double for Reece Wilson BTW?

We wondered what was going on with Wesley. I guess that the fastest loser had gone home and they have a reserve for such eventualities.

Viper is rubbish. We call him Pound Shop Wolf.

Kids like Legend, Apollo and Fury. Probably because they're the biggest hitters. I think my missus has a thing for Giant.

I 'might' have mentioned that Diamond and Sabre were very impressive humans and now the whole family just looks at me with raised eyebrows whenever they appear on the show 🙂

They ARE very impressive!

Unlike Viper who seems really rubbish. Wolf used to at least try hard!

It was weird about Wesley...as above we assumed the next fastest loser wasn't available. I wonder how long the filming window is...everyone must get a bit of rest and they can't just knock the whole thing out in a few days?

I’ve been watching him on YouTube for a few years. He’s certainly confident, and a good TV presenter, but he’s definitely hamming up the character for Gladiators.

Here’s a fun video where he goes out for dinner with Giant…

Absolutely, think it was 2 weeks ago he was struggling not to burst out laughing at one point.

But that’s the whole point - give too much before the travelator and you’ll fail. It’s happened so many times over the years. It pisses me off that they slow it down so they can finally get up though.

Clattenburg still getting it wrong in his refereeing as well. Giant didn't drop his stick, he used Weslies podium to stop his fall.

No, Sabre did her hamstring in, but I think she's hoping to get on the next series from what I read.

I think they could ditch/replace a couple for the next series, though that's maybe not fair as it'll not be up to the Gladiators the role and games they play. Viper was a waste of space for me as was Athena.

Sorry really late to this party but just watched the 1st episode and was very pleasantly surprised. I am of the age who watched as a kid every week the 1st time round and then watched the documentary (about a year ago?)of the making of the original American gladiators. Anyway thought that time has moved on and this had the potential to be a bit rubbish especially with 'h and s' these days but absolutely loved it. Laughing out loud at the silly bits (leg end) and just amazing to watch what hard work can do to create an amazing physical specimen of a human being! They are all just gorgeous every one of them. Makes you want to go to the gym and cut out the pies 🤣 oh and bonus points for female DH mtber in the 1st episode.

Kerry stays in a village close to me. Apparently it was filmed months ago, as when it was shown on TV, Kerry was in Europe snowboarding.
Also Sabre (Shelli McCoy) had torn a hamstring so wasnt on and is still recovering.

We as a family really enjoyed it. My daughter took an irrational dislike to Marie-Louise based entirely on the fact that she did The Worm.

Favourite Gladiators were Legend and Fury.
