Have I understood correctly that Chiggle mangled user address data in a migration and then put the onus on users to spot that they might have been provided with a new and wrong postcode? Surely somebody has invented that absurd scenario?
It’s absurd to suggest the customer is responsible for the company manipulating their data without their knowledge.
It's absurd to think that chiggle are the most likely culprit here.
To be fair, I've had wierd stuff going on with bits of my address being auto populated incorrectly or post codes pre populated from (presumably) prior/other customers NOT Chain Reaction tho. It's IT init? Usually shite.
The OP was just sounding off, he's obviously not being literal. He's poorly and his cheer me up purchase + free sweeties have just gone AWOL. Give him a break. 🙃
only if you have no idea who the Luddites actually were
I do know who they were that's why I said that, and why I capitalised it.
I then carefully read the order details and it had been delivered to my old address.
I had that for brake pads too, I wonder if it was the same place.
Correct shipping address on the PayPal receipt, but an address from over a decade ago on the shipping notification! Thankfully I caught it at that point, so I got it fixed before it was actually handed over to the courier.

Yes, I suspect the postcode auto-populating wrongly is a symptom of the underlying problem that has led to Chiggle's current predicament rather than the OP (who doesn't sound like he's having the best of times right now himself) making a wish and that wish somehow manifesting itself into reality.
Oh, and as for quality migrations.
This is the firm that couldn't be bothered to take order history across to make it easier for their customers to reorder with them when the time came...
Presumably to saved on storage/one off migration costs (or p'raps simplify the migration). If you were a conspiracy theorist, you might even suspect it was to make warranty claims more difficult...
Short sighted? Mebbies.
Just to cheer you all up, someone I know (genuinely not me) once accidentally ordered some kind of moderately mucky book from Amazon (US) and somehow a copy was sent in his name to every delivery address he’d ever used, including his family and in-laws 😯🍆🤣
"Oh, I must have had my account hacked, I got one too!!"
Delivery addresses are easy to get wrong. I recently ordered some brake pads. Got an email through saying they will be delivered on Friday. No sign of them on the Friday. Check my emails and had a notification from Royal Mail it was delivered. I was a bit miffed after checking under the bin and all the likely places. Ranted to my wife this is ridiculous I’m going to complain. I then carefully read the order details and it had been delivered to my old address. I didn’t want to sack anyone but I had a wee emotional reaction before I realised it was my fault.
Anyway I had updated my billing address and added my new address in. But I hadn’t set my new address as the default delivery address. My fault entirely but it was so easy to get it wrong.
I once had an Amazon "successful delivery" complete with a photo of the package on the doorstep (so not delivered, then). I check the door, no package, obviously stolen.
Long story short, I'd made exactly the same mistake as above and it'd gone to the old address. The delivery photo? The buyers of my old property had bought a new front door and it was near-identical to the one at this place.
The funny bit is that the most important bit to actually check IS the postcode.
Post office, royal mail and the couriers may all be a show of themselves or a pile of shite. But write any old shite on an envelope with a house number and a postcode I'd wager it would on most occasions get there.
There is to much scope on orders for the address to go wrong... Iam looking at you mouse wheel changing drop done.
You ALWAYs check the address if you don't, and you send it to the wrong place I'd say the sender can stick their feet up with a job well done.
How on earth can expect anyone else to double check your address for you. You are literally have two things to do. Check it's going to the right place and pay!
As an aside anyone remember when CRC was two pages is in the middle of a mag.
I don't think I every got a full order there were always items missing (and refunded)
Only me that finds it a weird outcome for a database merge then. Or does everyone just need a bit more time to get the ‘witty’ comments out of their system before they can decide?
Why do people prefer making stupid jokes to discussing hypotheticals about database merges? 😴

Unfortunate that you couldn't put a stop to it.

Yep. Remember ringing up to order a full groupset part by part, wheel build and frame. Oddly everything arrived correct, apart from the frame… which they sorted sharpish
btilliant……. been out on the bike in the mud, saw this when i got back, cheered me right up.
I aim to please.
And occasionally i am successful!
In the early days you could chat to someone who knew a fair bit about the stuff and the delivery was spot on and very quick
I then remember the call centre employed folk who spoke broken English and not so easy to answer any queries and the delivery much slower
Skipped this mainly but
Goomer miss orders
Blames crc
People think he's being a bit of a prick?
Fair synopsis,
I read some of the first page then I got bored, so I hope someone has pointed out what matters is the net effect on the number and quality of jobs in the bike trade.
Centralised internet based selling reduces jobs - bravo your LBS who may profit from this.
“Aberdeen man drowns at sea.”
Unfortunate that you couldn’t put a stop to it.
That deserved more recognition.

Fair synopsis,
No, you missed out.
It's not CRC's fault.
It's the OP's fault, from not looking to check any discrepancy in billing and delivery addresses that none of us check really, because we've all been doing this for donkeys and it would be mad to think you'd need to check each and every time you order something from the company you've ordered from umpteen times.
It's crc's fault for changing the details
It's everyone here's fault for not using the LBS which was too expensive and we could get it cheaper online, which we all do except those now saying they never buy from outside their local bike shoppe, because they have too much money and like spending it keeping ailing businesses afloat.
So everyone is to blame including those unconnected to this actual purchase.
.
Im glad we sorted that one out 😀
How many jobs lost in LBSs since those who ran the LBS in which they worked didn’t grow their own businesses, see opportunities for future growth or be in the right place at the right time, and then worked within the system to enable their particular LBS to become another CRC?
Sidetrack to a brighter note, but my local LBS has largely opted to focus on repairs and servicing, and it's a real mix of super high end stuff right through to your mum's shopper trike. They have an A4 sign saying CLOSED on their door as they're too busy to deal with any new customers. Seems like the bike industry as a whole isn't doing as badly as sales of new stuff would imply. He said his biggest problem was he was so busy trying to get through the workshop backlog that he was loosing money on the "shop" side of things as he just didn't have time to manage it, put stock on shelves etc.
To be fair to the OP would you all have spotted a subtle postcode error?
Correct house number, correct road, yep, that's the address I want to use....
Meanwhile the postcode's gone from AA10 to AA20 and your delivery is 15 miles away.
I've done a few data migrations and as others have said the postcode should be one thing that's easy to fix as long as it's in a dedicated 'postcode' field. However, I have also seen horrors like addresses stored without any dedicated fields, just rows of data so rows 2, 3, 4, etc. could be town, city, county or postcode all interchangeably. That took some sorting out and could have easily resulted in errors like this if not done carefully.
Well, STW seems confident.

think op needs to get laid
Bugger, I’ve mucked up my delivery address again. I’m waiting on a rear mech hanger from an Ebay seller. Should have been here on the 31st October. Checked Royal Mail tracking and it’s in bloody Aberdeen. Anyways it’s getting redirected but I’ll have to wait a few more days. My Ebay default address was my old Aberdeen address. My new address is in there just not as my default. My PayPal is set to my new address.
Who shall I sack? Me probably 🤪
I had this problem with PayPal - somehow it defaulted to an ancient address. Fortunately I was able to go and get the item since it was local. Embarrassing though.
I'm not glad of the difficulties that they're facing or anything, but a chainset just arrived from them with different length arms. It was *surprisingly* painful to convince the person on the end of the chat to let me return them immediately rather than wait for them to perform a "stock investigation".
I was made redundant a couple of years ago, after 28 years in a job. And here in Belfast, CRC actually is my LBS. So I think the OP’s post sucks worse than just about any post I’ve ever seen on this forum. My first inclination is to wish that a similar redundancy situation befalls the OP. But after my trauma of redundancy, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
