Is there anyway to track gigs for favourite artist so i can actually buy tickets before they are all gone?
Have been using songbook but on the occasions they alert me the tickets are all gone?

I use Songkick and bandsintown.
Songkick is pretty good.
Also, follow artists on Twitter and/Facebook to get early notice of tours

Could you not just go to the websites of your favourite artists? Or follow them on Twitter?

That's what I do with a-ha.

I find Songkick really handy for smaller bands that tend to tour / play live quite frequently, but for bigger names (pretty much anyone that the public at large might have heard of that are currently popular) your best bet is to sign up to band / venue / ticket company mailing lists, and as others have said use Twitter. Then, much like with popular events of any sort, prepare to be sitting at a computer with a quick internet connection 15-20 minutes before the tickets come on general release!! In my experience if you hear about the gig through any even faintly mainstream media the tickets will have sold out long ago.
