Iron Maiden have just announced a UK tour next year so that's going to be added to my list:
Aussie Pink Floyd
The Cure
Ozzy Osbourne (he's rescheduled again – although I am not holding out much hope)
Iron Maiden
Dub pistols tomorrow at my local, then Bodega at Bedford esquires at the end of the month
The Dears at The Exchange in Bristol tonight, nice little venue, let’s just say compact and bijou!

I’m still trying to comprehend what it was I actually watched last night. Snarky Puppy was my first experience of live Jazz Funk fusion stuff, which involved instruments I’d never seen before and lots of bongos
It felt a bit like being trapped in a factory that was manufacturing the theme tunes to 1970s American TV shows
They’re clearly amazing musicians but I’m not sure I ‘get’ it, with my aversion to too much noodling. There was A LOT of noodling

saw them on their last tour, in Manc, on the strength of youtube clips basically, and frankly it was a bit too heavy a dose of amazing solo after amazing solo, after a while it's a bit yeah yeah. I'd no clue they were so popular.
We're off to see this guy next week in Manc again, and I'll be missing likely okay surf to do so and not even minding, much.
Dub pistols tomorrow at my local
I'd forgotten that was on and have made other plans. Drat.
Got cheap tickets to Public Service Broadcasting in Keele, Stoke is becoming my go place for gigs at the moment. Probably going to see Sea Power and Billy no mates at the Sugar Mill in the next month.
Public Service Broadcasting last night at the Ironworks in Inverness.
Absolutely superb!!! Fairly small venue (which is getting flattened to build another hotel unfortunately).
PSB are on my list of bands to see whenever possible.
They’re clearly amazing musicians but I’m not sure I ‘get’ it, with my aversion to too much noodling. There was A LOT of noodling
That’s jazz for you, file alongside stoner hippy bands (see: Grateful Dead).
Oh, and some Prog; they were often jazz influenced. Yes’ ‘Topographic Oceans’ probably the nadir - a triple album that might just have made a half-decent single album.

I was there too - thought it was truly excellent. However, even I, a self-professed fan of the noodle - struggled a little to attend properly at times. It was funny watching a vast sea of bald middle-aged men's heads bobbing in time to the music, tho 🙂
Saw the Paul Farr Trio at MASH in Macclesfield last night. Excellent gig. Luke Flowers is a bloody amazing drummer, a joy to watch & listen to.
@barney - definitely guilty of being a bobbing baldy bonce 😃
Annoyingly, both my retired friends I went with, despite being considerably older than me and Rob (also bald) are both sporting full heads of hair
I thought it was great! Something really different. Like I said, they’re all clearly phenomenal musicians. I loved the way they had the big screen showing you the close ups of the ridiculously skilled noodling
I saw Shijin at The Verdict in Brighton last night. I went because a friend wanted to, I'm not into jazz.
Well I'm still buzzing from it now, I thought I'd at least enjoy it but I didn't expect to totally love it.
Anyone know of a jazz venue that does food? Reading this makes me wanna eat noodles whilst listening to noodles.
Pavement a week on Tuesday, Bill Callahan and Stereolab next month and Mogwai late December in Glasgow.
Grand.
Ive seen Public Service Broadcasting loads over the years and to be honest I was a little board last night some good bits but I didn’t do it for me. It may have been that atmosphere wasn’t great compared to the usual drunken festival crowd.
Yes yes yes! Gabriels (finally!) at SWG3 in Glasgow in just over a week.
No no no! Means coming home from Aviemore a day early. Tyred weans not impressed. But screw them, Gabriels!!
After King Tuts being cancelled and them being billed to support Michael Kiwanuka then not being there, I won't believe it til I see it.
@sillyoldman - forgot about Bill Callahan, just ordered them now, cheers!
Pavement a week on Tuesday,
Just had a look at tickets at the Roundhouse in London out of interest.
£172 standing!
£183 in Manchester!
Are they absolutely effing bloody twuntin mental!? 🤣
I love Pavement, but.. Jesus wept! 😳😳😳
Going to see PSB tomorrow night. Wasn’t panning to but been offered a ticket tonight. Also seen them a few times since 2013. Most recently blue dot this year. They can be absolutely great (2018 larmer tree) or bang average. Anyway, I’m looking forward to it.
PWEI tonight in Oxford, like a fine wine!!
Teetering on Sepultura at the qmu in November... Not sure, may be good, Sacred Reich support, so could be rowdy. 🙂
Just bagged half price tickets for Fields of the Nephilim in December in Edinburgh... One I'm looking forward to, if they don't cancel .
Teetering on Sepultura at the qmu in November…
Worth it just for Casagrande.
Saw the mind blowing Gilla Band in Brighton last night, saw em a few years back (called Girl Band) and they were amazing that time. They've got better. Staggering noise. In fact, I've got a weird vertigo thing going on in my right ear and I did stagger out of the venue at the end.
PVA in Southampton tonight if my lug'ole can take it. 😀
Mogwai in December (first time seeing them for me, can't wait!), Brian Jonestone Massacre and Weyes Blood early next year then Roger Waters in June - all in Glasgow.
Saw CUD at a little gig in Halifax week before last, they were great. PVA at the Belgrave in Leeds next week, then JOHN at the Brudenell 18th Nov. My earplugs are getting some hammer 🙂
Deep purple in Manchester on Wednesday! Excited.
Gabriels were every bit as great as I hoped they'd be. Really special.
Deep purple in Manchester on Wednesday! Excited.
Blimey! What's the line-up these days, as a matter of interest?
Unexpected Wednesday night out to see Thea Gilmore last week, which was nice. Next on the bill is pip blom a week on Friday, the first of a three gigs in three different towns weekend…🎶😃
Forgot to mention seeing Angel Olsen at Bath Forum last Wednesday. Great venue, however they were doing a sort of ‘trust barrier’, where they have a marked area at the front that you stand behind, instead of a barrier. Which is fine, but standing in one place for four hours with nothing to lean against to take weight off your feet gets very tiring!
Terrific performance, though, and she has a cracking band with her.

@woody2000 - in for a treat with PVA. Superb stuff. Bit Factory Floor, bit Cabs, bit acid, bit DAF , gotta love a live 303 🙂
Next is TV Priest, also at the Joiners. 5 gigs in 2 weeks in Nov, culminating in one I've waited literally years for due to Covid... clipping. My lord I'm excited about that.
Been filling in my history from my Google Calendar into here, will move to ticket stubs next I'm WFH 😀
https://www.concertarchives.org/
Nice n geeky to have an online record 🙂
Cheers @desperatebicycle - they're a new band to me, looking forward to it 🙂
I went to see Richard Marx, he of fluffy hair 80s & 90s soft rock, at Union Chapel in that there London a few weeks back. He’s still got an amazing voice and had the crowd of certain aged women in the palm of his hand. It was a bit of an expensive nostalgia trip for me. Saw him in the late 80s when fluffy haired soft rock was a thing.
I’m taking Boy2 to see The Pretty Reckless at the Academy in Bristol next week.
Frost* at KKs Steel Mill in Wolverhampton next month. Then the next one will be rescheduled Karnivool in Birmingham in February. Those two I’m really looking forward to.
where they have a marked area at the front that you stand behind
Yes it's an odd venue. They can't make their mind up about standing. I've had:
Artist says 'this is odd, hey everyone, come down the front'. This worked well.
No coming to the front at all (failed spectacularly with a comedy moment of a middle aged woman being chased by security before the majority won out by rushing the front)
Only allowed standing along the sides, with stroppy security.
To be honest, unless it was an act totally suited to a seated auditorium, if they are too big for Komedia, I'd rather they went to eg Bristol
CountZero
Full Memberhowever they were doing a sort of ‘trust barrier’, where they have a marked area at the front that you stand behind, instead of a barrier.
Ages back I went to see China Drum at the edinburgh venue, and there was no barrier but the bouncer- the one bouncer- had decided that he wanted a gap anyway. He was about 5 foot tall, built like a twiglet, and held us all back by sheer force of personality, angle of cigarette, and madness of glare. Took all the way into the encore before someone built up the nerve to close the gap and rock out properly, I assume that person is buried out behind the venue.
We saw Gabriels too (Sunday night in Manc). Excellent, although everyone scratching their heads at how short the set was! What they played was great though, he's quite the showman.
I went to see alexisonfire last weekend, and although I've been to gigs post pandemic this was the first time I really got back into the crowd. I'm a bit fan of theirs so had an amazing time, love the band, the crowd were ace in Brixton too. Needed a breather after the first 30 minutes, but then went back for more! Awesome night.
Blimey! What’s the line-up these days, as a matter of interest?
Ian Paice, Ian Gillan and Roger Glover from the 70s line up. Don Airey on the organ/keyboard and guitarist is Simon McBride who replaced Steve Morse this year.
They were great and still sounded awesome. Don Airey is a keyboard legend!
I’m taking Boy2 to see The Pretty Reckless at the Academy in Bristol next week.
I saw TPR in Manchester on Thursday. Another tick on the bucket list, great gig.
You know what though, I think I'm done with the Academy as a venue. It's always rammed so even at the back like an old fart you're still shoulder-to-shoulder with folk, and because it's so flat you can't see shit if you're somewhere in the middle.
Very true re the academy. Sloping floor of the Apollo much more civilised!
Managed to finally get to a Bon Iver gig (3rd set of tickets booked - first he cancelled, second I wimped out because of snow/ice, this one was re-arranged due to Covid - twice). At Wembley Arena - brilliant (even if a bit too much of the newer stuff). And topped with a Taylor Swift turning up to sing 'exile'!
This week a slight change and off to see Bug Club!
Ian Paice, Ian Gillan and Roger Glover from the 70s line up. Don Airey on the organ/keyboard and guitarist is Simon McBride who replaced Steve Morse this year.

Thanks for that and glad to hear that they're still cutting it. The first time I saw them in the 70's where unfortunately Ian Gillan (who has a fantastic voice) had left and was replaced by David Coverdale who I didn't rate. However, early 2000's saw me seeing them again and disappointingly Ian Gillan was suffering from a cold or something meaning his usual powerful voice was absent. Really enjoyed their music BITD although unsure whether going back in time is always a good thing!
Where are you seeing TBC @sadmadalan ?
We’re off to see them at hebden bridge trades next Saturday. I cannot wait!
I've seen TBC three times now, you won't be disappointed. Twice at Boilerroom Guildford, and Weds night at Scala in KX. Scala of course is way bigger and they seemed almost overwhelmed at first (I think she said it was their biggest gig yet). But they hit their straps about 3 songs in and just brilliant from there on. Song 4 of Intelectuals ("pick me like a flower....) was a real moment, 600-odd people singing their song back to them and the sheer delight on their faces gave me a lump in the throat.
See them while you can, and before they get too big. In fact, **** it....I'm getting a ticket for Reading this week, make it four times this year.
Smaller venues are great and still very good value for a night out, but when is too much too much for big gigs!?
I'm old enough to be re-visiting bands I saw back in the 80s and 90s and booked Def Leppard and the Crue for Wembley in July. £125 per ticket (cheapest option - some went up to £2k), £14 per ticket "charges" and then a £3 "service fee". Add the £100 train and £135 hotel and I'm done for this type of event!
I get the cost of putting on a tour and the venue etc but, as I found out afterwards, same bands playing Lytham festival the day after and its £70 per day ticket!
Add the cost to the shameful Ticketmaster practices of trying to flog the worst seats first (seem no longer to be able to select tickets - just randomly assigned) and I'm voting with my feet. Anyone else priced out of these 'big' shows?
I know what you mean..... but how does it compare to eg: a PL football ticket (£40-70 at a guess?), a London stage show (wife is seeing TKA Mockingbird today, £80 tickets) and Moulin Rouge next weekend at 'more than £100' (she won't tell me full price, I think I overheard her saying to someone £135)...... etc. And then as you say, add in booking fee, etc....
OTOH, TBC (did I mention I've seen them a few times) - next week's ticket in Reading is £11 plus a heinous £1.10 booking fee! But a lot of the time you feel they'd just play and would pay us to be there, they seem to enjoy it so much!
Amyl and The Sniffers tonight’s at the worlds finest music venue (Barrowlands). 🙌🙌. A very reasonable £23.50 for a ticket too. Bring it on, although not looking forward to the drive back home.
I have no interest in “big shows” - usaually just old gits going through the motions for the money. Most of my tix are around the £15 mark and I love it. The smaller the venue the better, new bands still proving themselves are what I like and I’m bloody glad of it!
Got tickets for the Reytons at Sheffield Arena next September. They are ace - early Arctic Monkeys meets Reverend And the Makers meets Milburn
That’ll be a belting gig! Hmmmmmm. Not been over to Sheffield for a while. Used to spend a lot of time there.
Just seen Ozric Tentacles and Gong are playing the Academy next month. That might be a nice little trip down memory Lane (no pun intended)
@theotherjonv it will be my third TBC. Gig too. First time earlier this year at a tiny 150 capacity place in Sheffield, then main stage end of the road. There were comments about the size of the stage and getting lost!
Next weekend it’s pip blom Friday night at yellow arch £9 I think, tbc Saturday, then Julia jacklin somewhere in manc on Sunday.
Need to get my finger on the button on Friday morning for when pulp tickets go on sale. Might go and see them in Scarbados rather than at home… last time I think was Sheffield city hall ballroom with longpigs as support in around 92
That’ll be a belting gig! Hmmmmmm. Not been over to Sheffield for a while
Do it, I'll buy you a beer. I'm much nicer in real life.....
Just remembered I'm off to London in 2 weeks for Symposium. Completely shameless throwback? Absolutely. But a Symposium and A dual headliner was one of my first ever shows, and it was brilliant, and so was every other time i saw them.
(there's a Biffy show inbetween... I love Biffy, they're the ink in my skin but I'm way less excited about that than about jumping up and down to The End)
I love Biffy, they’re the ink in my skin
Biffy Biro?
Biffy are headlining the Berlin concert in December. My son is excited at this, I remain to be convinced but I will be 60 and wasn't exposed to them when he was still at home.
Just remembered my good wife bought Clutch tickets for Glasgow in a couple of weeks.
Gonna be a belter, as always.
@Sandwich, they're a bloody awkward band tbf and I reckon they're a little past their best, maybe a little bloated now... but when they're good, they're pretty incredible. I reckon about 10 of the best 20 gigs I've ever seen were biffy shows.
Pulp 2023 tickets on sale Nov 4.
That will be me then.
I saw them at their 'final' gig Sheffield Arena and it was truly epic. All gigs since then have been a bit flat.
I'm surprised they've come back to be honest. But I guess they all do eventually. £££.
Will go to the arena - 2 dates for that.
I've just shot a music video for Editors (Kiss) - 8 mins - long and I'm really enjoying their new album EBM. Will see them next year. I've been filming them during live rehearsals, great sound and production.
Gabriels were every bit as great as I hoped they’d be. Really special.
Caught them at London. Here@outer net is a good new space with great sound. Though they sold out of all the more interesting (and reasonably priced for London) beer by the time I arrived.
Short set because they don’t yet have much material. (They’ve only released the first half of the album so far).
I love a good gig but don’t get out very often. Got Suede, Arctic Monkeys at Hillsborough park and hopefully Pulp at the Arena lined up for next year.
Set Twickets alerts for The Reytons - just bagged 2 tickets for Keele Uni next Saturday £18 each.
Saw Midlake at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds Friday night. Second time this year. Solid setlist and they were on good form again. I liked the venue too - nice and small, cheap beer, good sound. First time there, but will be back definitely.
Saw Martin Harley on Sunday. Last time I saw him was at the Union Chapel, this time in Temperance Cafe in Leamington with a capacity of about 45. It was unbelievably good. If you like slide guitar blues, he's on tour for a while, well worth catching if he's playing near you. https://www.martinharley.com/tour
This story may be of interest, 12 hour party people? Manchester tells the night & day cafe to abate
They had a big discussion about it on Five Live last week. Love Night and Day but this seems to have been an ongoing campaign to try and shut it down
Let’s all buy a flat in the city centre, next to a music venue, then try and get it shut down. ****s!
We’re off to a random gig tonight (the band are called Sorry. We’ve seen them supporting Shame before)
It’s a venue I’ve never even heard of before … The White Hotel in Salford.
I’ve just googled it and this is it 😳

That photo was from the MEN and used to illustrate an article about a violent assault outside. Should be interesting. Well I may die, but at least I’m unlikely to be asked to pay 8 quid for a plastic glass of lukewarm Carling. Take the positives 😃
That stuff about the night and day cafe has been rumbling on for a while hasn’t it? Sent my lad who is a student in manc the link to remind him to sign the petition.
White hotel seems to be the in place. Laddo went to see something there the other week. He wasn’t too impressed with the bar selection iirc so hope it’s not too terrible!
Not been anywhere for a while but Fontaines DC in a couple of weeks.
Warmduscher at the Recommendes tonight 😁
@desperatebicycle - enjoyed PVA mostly, they made a great noise. Couldn't get on with the lead singer though, couldn't hear a word she sang!
The support band were Adult DVD, who were absolutely brilliant. Totally unexpected, will be checking them out again.
Sepultura in Glasgow last night. Absolutely tremendous. I haven't listened to anything by them since Roots, so wasn't too sure what to expect, but blown away. Crowbar were superb, the (poorly named) Sacred Reich were a thrash by numbers snooze-fest.
enjoyed PVA mostly, they made a great noise. Couldn’t get on with the lead singer though, couldn’t hear a word she sang!
Yeah, that was why I compare tem to Factory Floor, or maybe Crystal Castles - I think it's just part of the sound rather than words you're supposed to hear. Took me a few songs to tune into that too. Watched their Later with Jools bit on Youtube last night - very much the same. But yeah, great noise 🙂
I don't think I'll be googling "Adult DVD" at work 😀
TV Priest next for me in a couple of weeks.
Off to see Pulp #oldybutgoody
Where you going to see then @llama? Struggled to get tickets to preferred venues (Scarborough or Brid), we're going to the Sunday in Warrington
Bob Dylan on Monday for me, I'm looking forward to it but also fascinated to see/ hear what it's like. I won't know the majority of what he's playing; interestingly he's also been insisting audiences put all mobile phones in faraday cages on entry, so it'll be quite the experience!
Where you going to see them
Cardiff it's the closest
And hopefully in the Glastonbury shaped hole in their schedule, but I've not been lucky there in recent sales
Also going to see pulp. At Sheffield arena on the Saturday. Didn’t get in myself- 28000 people in the Q in front of me, but luckily a friend got some for us.
Hadn’t considered they might play glasto. If we don’t get tickets for that on Sunday we were considering latitude again for the pulp gig. Hmmm…
Warrington looks like a great weekend. Paul Heaton on Saturday, pulp and self esteem Sunday. Full on South Yorkshire takeover!
The wife and I got tickets Pulp at Scarborough. Can't wait!! Also going to see Arctic Monkeys in Sheffield in June I think it is. I'm not that fussed but my sons wanted to go so its a family trip now, Me, Wife, Son and Daughter. My son is not happy his sister is going...
