After a quiet few weeks I've got 2 coming up.

This shower tonight - awesome review as flagged up by someone on here a couple of days ago - Half Man Half Biscuit - I wasn't particularly excited by them as I only have vague recollections of them from the 80s and from the occasional play on Marc Riley but properly looking forward to it after the Guardian article.

Then Spiritualized next week. Must have a listen to their new album.

@chrispoffer We're just back from the Spiritualized gig in Bath - brilliant. New album is worth getting.

(Proudly wearing my glow-in-dark Pure Phase t-shirt in Teams meetings today.)

Went to Low in Edinburgh on Monday, they were amazing.

Spiritualized next Thursday in Glasgow but alas! I'm in London that day and it'll be touch and go if I'm back in time.

Run the Jewels on June 4 - Saturday night, Barrowland - get in!

Just got tickets for The Smile in Ferrera,6.5 hour drive but should be a great weekend.

I went to see The Smile's first gig @ Magazine in January.

Amazing. If you're interested you can download it here -

https://easyupload.io/rizxt2

Got tickets to see Muse 9th May @ Hammersmith Apollo. Not really a fan but they're supposed to be good live so fingers crossed should be a good show.

First one in ages, off to see The Midnight at Pryzm in Kingston next Wednesday. Would have liked to see them in Brighton at Concorde2 on the Thursday but that's Rangers vs. RB Leipzig at Ibrox on the TV, so.. 😁

Completely put out of my mind that we have a llama family outing to see the delayed from 2020 Killers at Ashton Gate next month. I only remembered when they sent updated etickets yesterday. A bit bigger than most the gigs on this thread, and firmly in radio 2 territory, but I'm sure for a good show, and a gig is a gig! Stadiumtastic!

Keep seeing ads for their album that's just come out. Really can't be bothered to listen though... "The Smile" is such a terrible name!

Granddaddy with an orchestra last night at the Glasgow concert hall was great. Very civilised, seated, no talking from the crowd and just a lovely night 🙂

Edit: @ChrisL aha, just scrolled back up this thread.

Had two on the trot, Sleeper on Thursday, on their 25th Anniversary tour at the O2 Academy in Bristol, two support bands as well - Mumble Tide, a Bristol duo who record and produce their own stuff, reminiscent of the likes of Big Thief, among others, really enjoyed them, I’ll happily go and see them again when they do more local gigs.

Second were Lottery Winners, had a very enthusiastic following, recently toured with Shed Seven, not really to my taste, but good at what they do.

Sleeper were on top form, now a six-piece with added keys and guitar, and more evenly balanced gender-wise, no more Sleeper-blokes!

Friday was a bit different, Kate Rusby at Bristol Clifton Cathedral, on her 30th Anniversary tour! Which is all getting a bit much, I first saw Kate right at the beginning of her professional touring career, in Bath, and Sleeper three times back when they started in the 90’s, at The Fleece and Firkin as it was then. It’s a horrible reminder of how sodding old I’m getting!

On Tuesday evening I’m seeing the Kristin Hersh Electric Trio at The Fleece, and next Saturday it’ll be Nick Masons’ ‘Saucerful Of Secrets’, on their ‘Echoes’ tour, which I’m looking forward to, getting to hear pre-DSOTM Floyd stuff live at last.

Waiting to find out when Arcade Fire are going to tour here, I’m registered for pre-sale tickets, so eager for that, what with the new album coming soon.

Saw The War on Drugs - Easter weekend in Leeds. Excellent, long set with great performances.

At Leeds FD, always seems to be surrounded by idiots at FD arena - thought that might not be the case this time.

Killers in two weeks at Donny.

Not seeing Ride this time around but saw them a few years ago in Sheffield and they made a great sound.

Kristin Hersh was superb! Basically got three bands for the price of one - her band was both half of Throwing Muses, plus 50 Foot Waves, Fred Abong, considered a past member of the Muses was both support and bass player, as well as drums on one song, plus Rob Ahlers from 50 Foot Wave on drums and bass. Just needed Tanya Donelly to turn up and it would have been perfect.

Had enough time for a pint in the Seven Stars next door afterwards. Great pub, that!

Nothing booked yet for after Nick Mason on Saturday, been pretty busy recently, so time for a bit of a breather until End Of The Road Festival at Larmer Tree in September. Fantastic lineup this year, including Pixies and Tinariwen, along with Fleet Foxes, and lots of other artists I’ve been wanting to see. First festival for around six years.

i don’t know Kristen Hersh but I’ve got a recollection of a song that’s something to do with “Kiss The Sky Goodbye” - is that her?

I'm just back from seeing Backstreet Lovers at King Tuts. I was the reluctant responsible adult needed for my daughter to go, it was superb. What a band.

Really can’t be bothered to listen though… “The Smile” is such a terrible name!

How embarrassing. Thom Yorke's band and they are brilliant 😛
Glad I got round to it.

So, I had a UK grime experience booked for Friday.... another one cancelled 🙁 My mate is playing experimental synths with a violinist on Saturday though, so that'll do instead (hopefully!)
So next now is Witch Fever on Monday 23rd. Mainly cos I fancy the bassist (goff bird 😆 )

Bought a ticket for a local comedy gig in June, with some good acts, particularly wanted to see the second on the bill. Headliner has now been swapped due to TV commitments..And is now Zoe Lyons... who I don't find at all funny! 😆

You couldn't have been sitting very near me (pretty much centre/centre in the stalls) as there was a couple of guys behind me and to the right who did seem to think it was fine to chat through all the quiet songs.

Other than that it was a great gig. 🙂

and indeed i did go. family BBQ at home in the sunshine, a cold beer beckoning me, why on earth would i tear myself away and go drive over an hour away on my own to see a band.
pleased i went tho, really enjoyed them. it was BLOODY LOUD tho, my insides were vibrating from the bass and my ears are still ringing this morning. reminds me, i must look at buying some of those 'gig friendly' ear plugs.
im pleased now tho that i didnt talk my wife or friends into it, theyd have hated it for the reason above, plus it was near constant strobes.

amyl and the sniffers next. on my own again 😆

Just got tickets for Symposium in London. They were one of my first ever live shows- first stagedive too. I think basically every 90s band I ever liked has now reformed at least once, except Therapy? who just never stopped

Great folk gig last night. A Shetland lass called Jenny sturgeon has done an album of songs to accompany Nan Shepherd’s living mountain. With archive film and excerpts from the book. Neil McSweeny in support. Really top stuff. Catch her if you can.
Tonight it’s Kae Tempest then yard act in Nottingham on Wednesday via someone who bought tickets for a gig they now can’t go to. Thanks very much!
Should be a good week!

Re HMHB they are playing in peak cavern “the devil’s arse” on our wedding anniversary… despite hailing from the Wirral herself my wife doesn’t fancy it as an anniversary treat. Am disappoint.

@phil5556 - I’m not really sure, I don’t recognise it as a song title, but it might be part of a lyric.
As mentioned, she’s best known for being a member of Throwing Muses with Tanya, her half-sister, but she also has 50foot wave and a solo career, and we got pretty much all three at that gig.

I managed to get Arcade Fire tickets, in the floor standing area, much my preferred place! Get there early to make a run for the front when the doors open!
So looking forward to it, the new album is superb, 40 minutes, ten songs, really doesn’t outstay it’s welcome, up there with Funeral and Neon Bible. From past experience, they put on a fantastic show, and the gig comes four days after End Of The Road Festival, I’m going to need a holiday to recover!

Well yard act were quite good last night. Not been to rescue rooms before. Nice medium sized room. Packed to the rafters of course. Lead singer reminds me of Jarvis in his mannerisms. Never a bad thing. They had a fan from the crowd come and play lead guitar on one track. Pretty cool. But why so early? Finished at 9.35pm? Train back to Sheff wasn’t till 11.15. Had to go for another beer!
Kae Tempest was amazing on Sunday night. Has a little cry during “hold your own”. They just speak the truth.
Got Nubian twist this weekend I believe. Then nothing booked till blue dot. Need to fill the calendar!

I wear ones specifically for music, they have a little filter to block damaging frequencies so you can still hear the music. I have them in a container on several sets of keys so I’m never without them.

Here’s a review of a bunch of different ones.

The oh sees at marble factory Bristol.

Crack cloud (support) were entertaining. Quite liked them. Remind me a little bit of Squid, probably to do with drummer doing most of the vocals. Stupid name though.

Then oh sees came on seemingly right away to set up. 15 mins later did interstellar overdrive as a sound check, Dwyer says hello, and launched right into it. Was very intense, relentless, sweaty. Those drummers, jees. My 2nd time seeing them, would not hesitate to do so again.

Killers at Ashton gate Bristol.

Missed the Manics due to queuing to get in, but I'm not bothered, I'm a bit meh about them and this wasn't going to be the venue to change mind.

Killers next. Llama family outing. Basically summarised as good start, dull middle, great end. Nice visuals. You can guess how the set list fits around that. Youall are Gert Lush, says Brandon. However, a good time was definitely had, good thing to share with family llama, as we have memories of when the kids were just getting into music in 200? and us all seeing them do Glastonbury with them on our shoulders.

Ashton gate needs to improve its bar throughput though. Worse I've ever experienced, stadiums, festivals, arenas, academy, club, whatever.

Next is LCD Soundsystem which I am very very excited about

Killers at Doncaster. 50th birthday treat. VIP tickets ££££.

Very much a big spectacle. Enjoyed the staging of it and feel. The stage and screen was massive.

But I'm less of a fan of the old stuff - more the new stuff and they didn't play that much from their latest album. Probably because it's not stadium friendly but I think the set list could have been better.

Also stadium sound (and general sound mix) is just mush when on full tilt. Or maybe I was sat too far on the left?

I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and the weather was great. They're a great band and I've played imploding the mirage and pressure machine constantly through lockdown.

After seeing a thread on here last Monday, I think I got the last Glasgow ticket for George Clinton, last Tuesday. First gig I've been to in at least 10 years.

Two hour set, with 15 people singing, playing or dancing constantly. He did sit down when he wasn't singing, but I hope I have his energy when I'm 80!

What a way to return to live music! I loved every second of it.

Added another gig to this year’s ongoing list - Angel Olsen at Bath Forum in October. That venue is really starting to get some interesting artists, and it’s nice and close with a car park the other side of the road at the back. Standing in the stalls area at the front.

Oh, and Television are playing Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff in October as well, two days before Angel Olsen, so could be a busy month.

Just in from My Chemical Romance in Glasgow, what a bloody brilliant gig. Setlist wasn't what I'd choose- too much Danger Days, not enough old shit. But the performance was awesome, Gerard seemed a little bit out of his mind at times but he's still one of the best frontmen I've ever seen. They call it emo but as ever there were fat slices of Aerosmith and Queen and Therapy? all over the place, just one of the great rock and roll bands. And the crowd were absolutely brilliant- allsorts from old bastards like me to kids at their first ever gig and all just absolutely up for it, in all different ways.

And, excellent crowdhandling too- they spotted some bother in the crowd and just immediately stopped the show during Mama, I was just nearby and went up and first aided it til the security arrived which was really fast, the band directed someone off the front wall to come into the crowd and help, pretty awesome (she was fine- panic attack or similar overload sort of thing)

I'm sure I've mentioned it previously in the thread, but going to see Guns n Roses 2nd July - bought the tickets 2/3(?) years ago and then the obvious cancellations ensued.

Wanted to see them - should have seen them 20 years ago, but wanted to tick it off (always regretted never seeing Queen, with Freddie obviously), but now I'm not so sure

GnR were the soundtrack to my teenage years and up until a couple of years ago (I'm 50 now) still featured fairly heavily on my playlists. Now, if a track comes on, I usually skip it. I've not arranged any accommodation or travel for the gig and I'm just a bit meh about it - a stark contrast to the buzz (and adventure that's not for repeating on here) I had going to see Metallica 3 years ago

Dunno what to do, go and enjoy it for what it is, or sell the tickets, save some coin, but maybe regret not doing it at some point

Not a gig I was at but this came up (sort of) on the news last night - a feature about Anna Lapwood who can only get to play with her massive organ* after everyone's gone home (she's the RAH organist in residence, and can only rehearse on it in the early hours when other stuff has finished)

Then I googled a bit more, and found the story about Bonobo's 5 days in residence, a couple of his guys after show 4 hearing her rehearse as they were getting ready to go home, a quick chat, and 18 hours later Otomo has a new part written into it. Worth following the link to watch the vid, also the one of the camera on her, she's having the time of her life!

https://www.royalalberthall.com/about-the-hall/news/2022/may/watch-bonobo-and-organ-player-anna-lapwood-live-at-the-royal-albert-hall/

* just wow...... 9,999 pipes, end to end would stretch 9 miles, biggest is 42 feet high and 2.5 feet diameter (and with all the stops out can probably knock small planets out of orbit) and smallest is the size of a drinking straw.

Only regret things you did, not things you didn't do. They might be faded , washed up has-beens phoning it in, they might be brilliant, but you might not get the chance again

@theotherjonv, that's awesome. reminds me of Muse at the albert hall. "Thought it'd be rude not to play this beast"

I've seen GNR twice since they became washed up hasbeens, one time they were actually great, the other time they were all over the place but still solid. Never saw them in their prime so I can't complain but I didn't regret going to see them either time.

I say sell the tickets and go and see a small up & coming band, who care about their music, in a small venue. It'll be way better.

after 2 years of no gigs, we've gone a little over board this year.

saw groove armada in Manchester a month or so ago on their last UK tour (still great live and must be 12 years or so since i last saw them, Bears Den in Leeds last week (good, but insisted on doing 2 acoustic / unmiced tracks which no one could hear and only played for 90 minutes).

Got Beck coming up in a couple of weeks which has been re-scheduled twice already, my annual Frank Turner pilgrimage in September for some loud singy jumping up and down, The Cure in Belfast in December (always been on the bucket list and never had chance before) and just booked tickets to see Bruce Springsteen and the E street band in Paris next year

i'm very pleased gigs are fully back!

I was excited to see Lamb are putting on a pre-Glastonbury gig but then spotted it's a Tuesday night in Brighton. That means two days off work and accommodation in Brighton which makes it an expensive night out and out of budget.

Sat in the presale queue for 7.5 hours yesterday for the Saturday tickets, only to finally get my slot and there being no way to buy them as pre-sale had sold out but that hadn’t let anyone know

Went straight for the Monday tickets this morning via ticketmaster france instead of the ridiculously slow venue booking system (which Springsteen’s website links to) got in within 5 minutes and got golden circle standing tickets - happy days

Anyone else going to see LG at Knebworth this weekend? Going down with the same bunch of lads who I used to go to Oasis gigs with in the 90's. Can't wait 🙂

Got a day free on Friday in the Luton area for a few beers. Everyone says avoid Luton like the plague. Where else is good for a few drinks around there - Harpenden?

It was pretty good, very loud, but i did have a bit trouble working out which song was which. Although, to be fair i was a tad drunk by the end. Was great seeing loads of ageing punks in the pub beforehand, bearing in mind i was too, but wasn't dressed like one. All in all thoroughly enjoyed myself. Next one will be London Calling, Clash tribute band in Gillingham in October, saw them last December at the 100 club and thought they were excellent

Oh Sees with support from Crack Cloud last week. Loud, hot and sweaty, totally rammed, crowd surfing occurring and beer was thrown. Was restorative to feel normal again 🙂

Took the 11 year old to his first gig last night.

Alice Cooper, supported by The Cult and Creeper.  Didn’t know Creeper - I’ve seen worse.
The Cult were not as good as they should have been.
Alice was complete over the top rock opera nonsense. Spot on.

All four of us (big brother and mum/my wife were there too) really enjoyed it.

One weird thing - everyone was sat down.

twas loud indeed. bought some 'musicians earplugs' after the viagra boys the other week, for just this purpose. do you think i remembererd them tho? 😀

really enjoyed them. good, lively rock'n'roll and easy on the eye. took a mate with me who went in blind, never heard of them before and he really enjoyed it too.

top night. now only got one gig lined up at the moment, idles in coventry this month.

Got Jacob Collier on Thursday. A rare family night out with wife and both kids. A covid rescheduled gig from summer 2020. Watched the imagine about him recently. Clearly a genius musically but still not 100% convinced it’s my cup of tea. Happy to be won over though, and a trip to the Albert hall in manc is generally a good evening 😂

I have my “musicians earplugs” in a little tube container thing on my letting now. Need to be able to hear the next day. 😳

SUUNS in Hackney last week, while in London with work. Really pretty good, hopefully remembered to adopt the disaffected air of a London gig attendee.

Run The Jewels in Glasgow on Saturday night, Tyred Jr's first gig at the Barrowlands. Pretty ace but slightly spoiled by the fact I had to be up super-early the following morning.

I’ve got three or four sets on different keyrings, depending on whether I drive or not. I only bother wearing them for larger amplified gigs, generally speaking.

I’ve just noticed an email saying The Delgados are getting back together after 17 years, I saw them supporting Calexico at Bristol O2 Academy, so that must be getting on for twenty years ago!

I love their stuff, and everything Emma Pollock has done since, so my decision to slow down on ticket purchases might be going out the window!

Nearest venue is London Shepherds Bush, January next year. I think it’s going to have to be done. Emma’s got another solo album in the works, and she’s said she’s going to be touring that next year as well, hopefully somewhere closer.

Interesting.. are they still as intense as they used to be live? I saw them a few years back and they were fab... but their last album was so dull and lifeless, so I hope that's not the direction they've gone in!

Ticket for Foals just purchased. They're doing "outstore" gigs - so smaller venues and gig ticket + CD/vinyl at a decent price. Loved some of their earlier stuff, so worth a punt

Jacob collier last night at Apollo in manc. Not a gig I would’ve bought tickets for. Wife bought the tickets in nov 2019 as a family Xmas pressie for our kids who were then 19 and 21 and who were into his stuff. I’m more into “shouty bald men music” than this electro jazz r&b acapella harmonisation stuff. Anyway he’s won a couple more Grammies since then so it got moved from Albert hall to Apollo whilst waiting for covid to blow over (original date April 2020 I think).
Initially I thought it was a bit dull and showy off/ watch me play 6 instruments in one song/
However I had to admit the sound was pretty awesome and clearly amazing musicians on that stage. He got the whole crowd singing along and conducted the notes like we were his instrument. The other three really enjoyed and I’m glad that I went as he seems to be one of a kind. Different vibe to when I went to the same venue with my wife to see the specials and she made us leave early due to her perception of the boozy male aggro crowd. I guess I owed her this one. 😂

I’ve just bought a ticket for John Cooper Clarke in Tenby for tomorrow evening. I’m quite surprised.
Anyone seen him?

I’ve also got a ticket for Bob Mould in Bristol next week so things are looking good for the older punk in me!

you know what youre getting with the doctor, still reads his poems from his book even tho he must know them off by heart now, and tells amusing anecdotes. hes a funny chap. biggest cheer of the night was for 'T**t'.

Well, yeah, don’t remember much except he wore a blue tonic suit.
But then it was 1981, when he was compère at a Depeche Mode gig I won free tickets for. 😀
