Tonight, we’re supposed to get to Wembley from the Midlands and woke up his moning to this white out of snow. A journey mainly along the M1 to Wembley. Given the conditions would you just not go? It’s the Cure at Wembley and I last went some 22 years ago on a summer’s eve. Have to drive due to the train strike the next day. Have the next day off work.
whereabouts are you - I've got to go Guildford to Leamington later to get daughter from University, it's motorway pretty much all the way so I'll be going (smug Michelin crossclimate face)
Between MK and Northampton.
They were magnificent in Brum last week, so it's worth some effort. Not sure they'll be touring again in 22 years, but you never know 🙂 Can you get to the M1? If you go for it; full tank, plenty of warm gear and sleeping bags, shovel, boots, food, flask, etc, etc. Do you have a plan B if you can get there but not back?
Thanks, but that amount of preparation is a little worrying.
How much snow is on the ground where you are?
We once got stranded in snow on the M74, miles from anywhere (which is possible on the M1). We were returning from a climbing trip so had full camping gear and put the tent up on the fast lane. Lots of folks had nowt and got properly cold. Spent the whole night brewing up and distributing hot drinks (and polishing off the whisky).
The cure are pretty good live, saw them at bellahouston a few years ago. It's a very difficult thing to judge.
However, IMO, you're another car, in adverse weather conditions, traveling a journey that isn't necessarily that essential.
Given the risks involved, the lack of the UK/england to be able to cope with snow, and the very very long ambulance response times, I'd be reconsidering.
I'm reconsidering traveling from Glasgow to Edinburgh for a gig this week just due to the low temps. I could go quite easily, the roads will be gritted, and it'll probably be OK, but it'll be -5 when we get out but I'm not sure i trust the roads. again, it's whether it's really necessary.
I may be somewhat more risk averse than others, but it's not about whether I can make it, it's whether others can make it, volumes of traffic and differing levels of preparation should something go wrong.
I've been looking at the AA website and all main routes look OK to me, just looked at your route and seems OK as well. There were reports of snow closing the M25 earlier around J25 which is further east (Essex) but that is reopened and gritted now.
Of course, it's half nine and there's a while yet, but I'd be making plans to travel.

Takes about 10 minutes, and is sensible for any winter travel when weather's iffy. I've prepped the same, also some carpet to put under wheels just in case.
If you are on main roads all the way then I can't see it being that much of a problem. And I saw them last week in Leeds and I would happily crawl through the snow to go and see them again - they were astounding.
I suppose what I mean is I do not keep severe winter gear I my car as I rarely drive as I work from home. And I don't live in say the Scottish Highlands. I'd have pop to Halfords to pick up said gear for one trip.
You won't need it, but you've got a shovel, haven't you. And a duvet, or a few blankets? And a couple of fleeces or a down jacket. It's not a polar expedition, it's a drive down the busiest motorway in the country.

Unfortunately you're only as good as everyone else on the road. If there's a roadblock full of folk on cheap Chinese tyres, all the winter tyres in the world aren't going to get you past them
Ok shovel bought and winter gear in car, enough hopefully, to get me 60 miles and back and deal with the coming zombie apocalypse.
Hopefully we won't see any Pictures of You on the news tonight.
IGMC
just throw a box of stuff from your house that will keep you fed, safe and warm just in case. I'm in Scotland and a wee emergency box lives in the boot once the winter months kick in
Partner and me were meant to be heading into Edinburgh on Saturday evening to see a Bowie tribute band but it was freezing, can't rely on a train, and the city would have been mobbed tickets only probably cost us £35 for the two but I feel I let myself down
I’ll be going (smug Michelin crossclimate face)
You've bought tyres for all the people driving in front if you? Wow!
🙂

I've got snow chains in the shed... but this

OP, your route looks like it'll be fine, chuck food and extra clothes in the car and leave earlier in case the traffic is slower due to the conditions

More worried about the people behind me...
I've just had the best run to Warwick and back that I've ever had - can we have snowmageddon again on Jan 3rd when she goes back please.
Seriously - roads perfectly clear, gritters in evidence on the way back. Of course depends whether it snows again, but I'd be happy to travel.
Sure did. Just park is amazing, parked in someone's drive. Conditions on the roads were ok. The band were great.
You know you are getting old when the first thing you review is the parking 😂
Good to hear all went well..and now you own a shovel 🙂

...and parking was amazing - gig was just great! 🤣🤣
Nice!
We were there Sunday night and came out to find 2-3 inches of snow dumped whilst we were inside. Great gig and wrapped up nicely with the old classics.
I worked out that I had last seen them 35 years ago almost to the day, about 4 rows and slightly to the right of where I sat on Sunday :-).
His voice is still phenomenal, it's just the hair that's getting a bit thin!

Well actually the comment that proved how aged I've become (to my posse) was a decent four stars for the toilets and coffee.
