I'm quite chuffed! Been wanting to see Idles but they didn't gig near enough, then it's festival season, but I don't do festivals... then tour is announced- Brighton ... where? The Dome? £40? Brighton Centre? £60? No! Concorde 2! A lovely 600 capacity venue. £19! And it's in October so won't be as sweaty as when I saw Ty Segall there on Monday.
ooh punk rock me up
Nice one Dez,was Ty Segall good?
I hear him a lot on that radio station that you don't listen to 😉
Got tickets for the Lovely Eggs in none sweaty Oct and St Vincent in a full on August sweat fest.
was Ty Segall good?
Yep, excellent. Some lovely shreeky dual guitar soloing going on. Didn't think I'd be so into that sort of thing these days, but it was noisy enough to be great. He's got a good voice too. Included Hot Chocolate cover 🙂
Marc Reilly's Ty Segall session last night had me thinking I should maybe listen to him some more.
I'm not sure I have any gigs on the horizon until later in the summer but I saw Broken Social Scene last week and David Ford on Sunday and both were excellent.
Ty's latest album is probably his best, but if you fancy getting into him there's a lot of exploring to do.
Obviously nothing quite so thrilling as a Canadian woman with an acoustic guitar, but you can't have everything 😉
This makes me realise that I need to sort out some gigs. I've not got any nights out planned until October, but that is Jon Hopkins. I couldn't make it to any of his dates locally so I'm going to Paradiso in Amsterdam to see him instead.
I've suddenly got no amazing gigs on the horizon, it's not right. Nothing til 2 nights of ****in Mogwai anyway wooooaarghghghgh
I’m going to Paradiso in Amsterdam
Ooh, in't you posh! Travelling abroad for a gig!
I've got (eh? ANOTHER noisy GEEETAR band?? what is wrong with me?) the Oh Sees next, then Goat Girl and Idles (IDLES!! YAY!) in October. Oh actually, just remembered Don Letts Bass shenanigans with Wiley in July, so thats cool.
Wanted to see a local noisy guitar band - Melt Dunes on Friday in a lickle pub, but I can't make that one. Go see em if they're coming your way, they're excellent, part of that new psych pigeon hole most guitar indie rock type folks are getting lumped into. It'll only be a fiver or thereabouts to get in.
Cant beat a bit of gig anticipation.......
and i have just secured a ticket for Public Service Broadcasting at the Royal Albert Hall in November so really chuffed.....
thats 4 gigs lined up now in the next few months 😃
Stones,
Oh Sees
PSB
U2
and possiblilty of several more smaller ones if i sort out tickets
Twisted wheel next week in Blackpool
The coral later in the year and Cast in December
Black angels but m not sure when that is
And providing we get tickets, idles at the Ritz in Manchester
I've seen Idles twice this year already, still tempted to see them on this tour too. Just trying to work out if the Leeds gig fits nicely with half-term for child care 🙂
I have Download Fest this weekend and Foos in a couple of weeks. Nothing smaller confirmed yet.
and i have just secured a ticket for Public Service Broadcasting at the Royal Albert Hall in November so really chuffed
Didn't think they were on sale yet?!

A few Went on sale this morning to mailing list subscribers, rest on general sale Friday.
Jammy so-n-so 🙂
Oooooh Saw Idles a little while ago in Plymouth - they were fantastic...
Currently getting excited about Young Fathers & Massive Attack next Friday
Jammy so-n-so
That's what people are saying to me about the Idles pre-sale 🙂
Young Fathers & Massive Attack
Ooh yeah, saw that last tour. Great stuff. Shame (geddit) Young Fathers only have about 5 tour dates on their headline tour. One of my best gigs of the past 10 years was them in a little dump of a venue. Awesome.
Just booked me tickets to see Macka B at the Cambridge Junction in October, as the roots music will never die!
Mention of Albert Hall reminded me, I have tickets for GoGo Penguin there later in the year. Thanks STW, you've cheered me up.
Download this Friday-Sunday.
Electric Six
The Quireboys
Deacon Blue
Hazel O'Connor
Not all of them are my choices... but then I did drag MsBeej to Half Man Half Biscuit and Terrorvision a few times.
Tickets secured for Idles at the Ritz in October 👍😁
Oops, forgot to check the 10am sale for my mate 🙁
Still for sale, so got him one. Why hasn't this sold out in minutes?? Crazy 😆
Wahey!
Just got tickets for Public Service Broadcasting. Not at the Albert Hall though. At the Riverfront in Newport. PSB are doing a small venue tour in Wales before the AH gig.
The Riverfront only holds about 200 people so should be a great, up-front and personal affair.
Bargainlicious at £21.
MrsV has managed to get tickets for PSB at the RAH! Whoop whoop, never been there before, should be an experience in itself.
The Riverfront only holds about 200 people so should be a great, up-front and personal affair.
Sounds like my kind of venue!
Idles in kentish town, and PSB at RAH booked today 🙂 cannae wait.
I thought this was going to be about boats.
Is disappointed.
2nd single from Idles new album
DJ Lag, Kraftwerk, Kendrick Lamar, Dirty projectors, Ariel Pink and Peggy Gou all coming up for me!
Nice tip guys, IDLES booked 🙂
Beck t'other night was ok.
Madness local for me as in walking distance the the outdoor gig with a spectacular back drop. Downside is that it’s the day after I’m doing a 70 mile 24 hour walk. Ouch!
And whilst the CC was out, booked Lily Allen and Shame too
I am very jealous DezB as I want to see Idles more than any other band on the planet right now. Unfortunately Belfast is not on their new tour and they are yet to play here. I messaged them on Instagram to see if they would be interested in playing here and they got straight back saying that they had been asking to play here but as yet it hasn't panned out. I think their guitarist (BoBo) is from here so I am still hopeful.
Shame that isto, it is a massive tour they're doing too! I posted on it their Facebook (much to my shame) - 50+ dates in 15+ countries! Hard workin geezers. I'll report back in October how good they were 😉
Mate of mine saw the Yeah Yeah Yeahs a few weeks back in Dublin, I was jealous of that. One band I've never got round to seeing.
saw yeah yeah yeahs at brixton academy twice. 2002 was f*cki* brilliant, 2009 was awful
It's been a busy one this year. Alvvays, Milk Teeth and Lovely Eggs so far then Lovely Eggs again, Wedding Present, Teenage Fanclub twice, The Posies and Neko Case all booked.
saw yeah yeah yeahs at brixton academy twice
I knew there'd be one! I bet you saw the White Stripes too! >:-(
Saw Idles at Heaven back in March, they were good, venue let it down though. It's a cool place but long and narrow, due to traffic we got there late so were miles from the front.
Saw them a few weeks later at the Wardrobe in Leeds (Live at Leeds mini festival), we were 2nd in the queue and got a cracking spot, although I think the size/shape of the venue mean it's be hard not to get a good spot. Best gig I've been to in years, took Mrs V who isn't really a fan of theirs and she came out grinning from ear to ear and said they were the best band of the whole day.
I don't need to see them again this year... Do I??? Do I!??!?
only seen white stripes once in Barcelona. festival rubbish sound
How about gig trepidation instead of anticipation? I'm off to see Slamboree tonight but given the festival it is at it will just be full of Ketamine fuelled teenagers shuffling around looking like zombies. I'll also be looking like a zombie but that's my natural state because I'm old and tired.
Sugar Hill Gang tomorrow though and that should be good.

Saw Factory Floor there last year - we got up on the balcony - room for 2! good view, good sound. Only trouble was there was some horrible freakish behaviour (not sexual) below us with a selfie stick, which we were full witness to also. Yeuch.
Of course you need to see Idles again!
Alice In Chains at Leeds O2 Academy next weekend
Killing Joke at same venue in November.
Kylie at Leeds First Diret Arena in Oct. not my choice but only fair as i’m dragging MrsD to Alice In Chains
A Perfect Circle next week. Then 2 nights of Pearl Jam the following week. Happy.
Not seeing L7 in Camden next. Sad.
The Riverfront only holds about 200 people so should be a great, up-front and personal affair.
Sounds like my kind of venue!
There’s a few venues in Bristol you’d probably like, then, The Fleece, which is about 400-ish, an old wool warehouse, used to be a pub, The Fleece & Firkin, The Louisiana, near the docks, it’s what used to be the skittle alley above the pub, seen many great bands at both of those, roughly 250-300, and The Thekla, an old banana boat, bought by Viv Stanshall of the Bonzo Dog Do Dah Band back in the 60’s as an arts venue, still going strong, holds around 450, brilliant venue. You’d likely bump into Big Geoff, a legend of the Bristol music scene, gets name-checked by Steve Lamaq and even appeared on 6Music’s Round Table, manages something in the order of 350 gigs a year, and I’ve no idea how he manages it!
You’d likely bump into Big Geoff
You'll smell him before you see him.
Pearl jam in Amsterdam then Greta Van Fleet in Amsterdam the night after
.can t wait.just off the airport now..
I'm looking forward to seeing Mortishead in Bristol next weekend (Fleece) and then Arctangent festival in August, mainly for Shellac and Zeal & Ardour. Hoping Dead Cross will do some small shows as well as festivals.
Human League and Blancmange
It’s going to be fancy dresstastic

Don't worry about that. Went to a day festival a couple of weeks ago to watch Cast and OCS, average age of the crowd was probably 40+, lots of married couples, families. Saw more fights and completely @rseholed, so drunk can't stand up people at that gig than any I've ever been to!
Week later at NGHFB in Warrington, average age probably early twenties and there was no trouble at all!
Rixhardkennerly's first paragraph makes me happy all the gigs I go to are mostly attended by students!
My brother reported similar when he saw Madness at a local festival. Really not my idea of a gig!
Well **** me !
I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and could be called Grandad rock
but
the Rolling Stones tonight were absolutely amazing... even if it was almost a greatest hits show, even Charlie cracked a smile 😃
Been good so far this year:
Testament (+Annihilator)
Machine Head
Iron Maiden in August
Slayer farewell tour in November
Hearing aids for Christmas
Gone a bit bonkers with gigs this year, kicking of with Brian Fallon, Mary Gauthier, Wilko Johnson and Nils Lofgren x2 so far. The complete wild card has been Wilson, Bennett, Poole, however. If you respect the classics (maaaaaan) try and catch them. Wonderful Byrdsian 12 string riffs and solid set of songs drawn from their first record.
Before my 2nd Stones show I've got David Byrne (very excited about this, having had sneak previews via Twitter) and Elvis Costello. Fatoldgit shares my view on Stones: left Ricoh absolutely stunned. Unbelievable the energy coming off that stage from a bunch of 70+ guys. Twickenham show can't come quick enough. They seem to be the ultimate tribute band to themselves.
Gig year continues with Steve Earle x2, Steve Van Zandt, Jake Clemons, Proclaimers, Roddy Frame, Pixies, Courtney Marie Andrews and, another I'm hyper excited about, Cowboy Junkies.
I know it's not the hippest of lists but wtf, I'm approaching 60 and still in the pit/on the rail for live music, which can't be a bad thing.
Nice to see a good Bristol contingent on here! Thekla is my favourite venue anywhere, seen some great gigs there and a fair few dnb nights.
I've got Bodega at the Fleece in a few weeks. Can't wait for that one.
Well on Friday I put trepidation aside and went to the chameleons, my favourite ever band of the 80's and instead of being a house of love style let down were - brilliant. Next up fat white family, then Kevin morby, king creosote and gruff Rhys. Gigs are great!
Onlysteel ... there must be something about being 60, I got there in April and have been to more gigs this year than I have for ages.
must admit to a bit of trepidation before the Stones in case it was an anticlimax but need not have worried .... now wish I was going again.
But , as a counter to the cost of that while in Edinburgh I found a cracking pub with and saw a band called Cow Cow Boogie for absolutely nothing on Friday
If you ever find yourself with a free night I reckon the Stramash on CowGate is worth a look.
Next up for me is Waxahatchee at the Brudenell 😀
Belly tonight at SXW in Bristol! New venue to me, the band have no support, two hour set with an interval, playing new material from Dove, their first album in around twenty years, with music from Star and King, their first two albums. Going to be a lot of love in the air for them tonight. 😍
Going to see Belly in Manchester on Tuesday, Kristen Hersh in couple of weeks at the Square Chapel in Halifax, then the Breeders in July. It's like the 90s never ended.
It's Massive Attack & Young Fathers day!
Getting quite excited - just hope it's not ruined by self entitled middle age Range Rover owning pricks.

Getting quite excited
me too, just managed to sell my tickets on twickets.
pearl jam on monday...
@Princejohn - just get down the front where you can't see em. Man, I wanna see Young Fathers again.
I saw Belly in Portsmouth on Saturday absolutely brilliant gig. Managed to persuade the missus to go with me (she's not really into that sort of thing) and she even enjoyed it.
Was supposed to go to Shepherds Bush but double booked (Stealth ad: 2 cheap tickets still available 🙂 )
Just snapped up tickets for Cypress Hill at Brixton in December
Good end of the year for me. Going to see Corrosion of Conformity play Sheffield on November. Then seeing Clutch play Manchester in December.
I'm excited - just off the back of seeing Gomez and Paul Simon last week, and I've got tickets to Toots and the Maytals in August. Didn't even know they still existed! Plus eyeing up Saint Etienne in September, and possibly Smashing Pumpkins tour later this year (stadium, but still should be good)
I’m excited. On my way to Cardiff for the Stones 🙂
Interpol in Copenhagen this November - tickets and flights bought on a whim after a pretty amazing trip to see them in Prague last year
I'm doing my first gig with my new band in Stoke on thursday if anyone fancies it.
I'm bricking it 😆
Only £4. Bargains.
On way to watch twisted wheel tonight. Loved them when they were in their prime, hope they pull it together
You’d likely bump into Big Geoff
You’ll smell him before you see him.
That’s a pretty cheap comment. I was stood next to him chatting for some time before Belly came on, and he was stood next to me during the gig, I never noticed anything like that. He used to to be a lot more ‘energetic’ at gigs, and get fairly sweaty, but he wasn’t the only one; I’ve worked with people who had a real personal hygiene problem, Geoff isn’t noticeably worse than many others at gigs.
Got a rare night out last night, as my mum stayed over to baby sit
Went to see A Perfect Circle & they were brilliant, good switch from the softer to the heavier stuff, great crowd & Brixton academy sell beer in 2 pint glasses!
Maynard has a strict no cameras policy, anyone taking phone pics is immediately ejected by the bouncers, pretty brutal, but makes for a much much better gig.
Was loadsa fun, including getting a free baguette from Euston food kiosk, however train canceled on way home, didn't get back till 1-30.
In a flash back to 25 years ago my mum was up waiting as we tried to sneak in, pretending that we weren't as drunk as we were.

Excellent policy. Shame more bands don’t have it. And when will people realise the pics/videos they get are shit?!
People believe you went to a gig without photographic evidence you know! 😉

Holy sheet I had no idea. On Trent. The proper one, Hanley technically.
Off to see a Cure cover band in Milton Keynes next weekend - does that count?
Counts if you’re excited about it... though I find it hard to see why you would be 😂
@Princejohn – just get down the front where you can’t see em. Man, I wanna see Young Fathers again.
@DezB - Yup did that. Young Fathers were fantastic, would love to see them in a smaller indoor venue. The people next to us saw them at their homecoming Leith gig last week, sounded epic.
I'm glad I got to see Massive Attack, slightly weird end to the set/encore tho, they did Unfinished Sympathy then another quieter song (that I didn't know, nor did half the crowd) & it just petered out. The highlight tho was Angel, such an intensity.
Oh - & even being at the front the dumb girl who appeared at the start of massive attack & proceeded to take selfie after selfie & even go facebook live, while not knowing any of the songs was pretty annoying... but also amusing when she did it during a load of information appearing on screen about the how the public at large are more interested in Keeping up with the Kardashians than what's going on in the world. Loved that little bit of irony.
Shameless plug for my lil' bro's band, playing The Star this coming Friday in the dad rock capital of Surrey
Nice one PrinceJohn (apart from selfie girl).
First time I saw Young Fathers was in the tiny Green Door Store under Brighton Station (Capacity: 150!). One of the most intense gigs I've ever been to. They were awesome, but quite scary... Until we met them outside the venue afterwards and they were friendly as anything.
Green Door Store - https://tinyurl.com/y6w57u9q
Going to see Nine Inch Nails on Friday.
V excited.
