Lyanda's eldest is turning 18, the first of many milestones she will unfortunately be missing. He has been in specialist schools since he was 10 and has moved around a lot. He doesn't live with us and only recently kept contact again. Don't know what he is into, have tried finding out but nothing forthcoming.

Struggling to think of gift ideas. Initially thought of a watch, someone has bought him one. I then thought of a nice but not too expensive wallet?

If anyone has any other suggestions I would welcome them greatly. Already have a keepsake planned which he will receive when it is sorted.

It's my godsons 18th birthday today.

He isn't really "into" much of anything.

We got him an engraved silver hipflask. He'll probably not appreciate it for another 30 years.

A wallet with £100 and your phone number in case he needs you should cover it.

If a pack of nice beers is appropriate then I'd go with that. Make up a selection of different types from the good ones at the supermarket. You could even put them into one of those fancy 6 pack carriers. Something like this.

Experiences rather than stuff. Teenagers already have too much stuff.

Is there something you can do together? Go-karting or some such, or an experience day if your budget is a bit higher?

It's a great idea - we got someone a 12 month beer subscription as a leaving gift recently and he was absolutely made up - but is that likely to appeal to a teenager over a 24-slab of Stella?

Oh, I know (contrary to everything I just said): Swiss Army Knife. What 18 year old boy doesn't want a SAK?

In the situation you find yourself in, this is as good a call out as any ^^

I got one too (or maybe it was for my 21st). I never used it and thought it was naff (just for balance - not trying to dismiss your choice).

John, aged 50 and 358/365ths

One of those pre-paid 24/40GB data sim cards found at Amazon and alike, so he almost always has access to pr0n in an "emergency." 😉

As a one off, yes more than likely.

I was given some silver cufflinks set with some semi precious stones. Wasnt bothered at the time, but wear them to all big occassions now and appreciate them. If however he isnt in a smart workplace then maybe not?
