My 12yr old wanted to ditch her Vodafone PAYG. All she wants is unlimited texts, so I've swapped her over to giffgaff which seems the best value compared to Vodafone etc. contracts. If I pay £7.50 a month for the appropriate goodybag that gives her her unlimited texts (plus some minutes etc.). Now, my question is, can she run me up a massive bill that'll get charged to my credit card, or if she uses up all her minutes will it be like she's run out of credit same as PAYG and she just can't call anyone? Not that she's an idiot about this sort of thing, but always best to know! I think it's the latter, but would appreciate it if anyone who knows more about these things can confirm that? (And obviously there is no point asking on the giffgaff website when you can ask on STW).

I don't know of any monthly tariffs that will stop usage when the limit is reached. I could be wrong, but I think they just rack up the charges.

Giffgaff runs on pre-loaded credit rather than a contract, so once the goodybag is used up the credit is consumed. Once you run out of credit the phone stops billable usage.

This happened to me once, forgot to renew a goodybag and when the phone stopped working realised I'd consumed my (small amount of) credit.

Top up, renew and back in online again.

As far as I'm aware, but haven't really tested it out... yes GiffGaff will do what you want. Your account may have a credit/debit card registered against it but unless you put extra credit on the account or an auto top up (think thats only for the monthly goodybag though), it doesn't automatically top up from your card.
When I first got my GG phone card, I wasn't able to make call to 0845 (or some such) number, as even though I had credit on my giffgaff goodybag these will not cover call to such number.. until I out some credit onto the card.
Also even if you have no credit left, you can still txt (maybe call) other giffgaff mobiles.

Phone will stop working until more credit is added.

Yes, as long as auto-topup is switched off. I think it asks if you want this during registration.

I cant remember exactly the name but there is a company out there who does £0 contracts that come with unlimited texts.

They don't come with any data or calls AFAIK so those charges can rack, but if all you are after is texts then that could be an option.

Cheers, as I thought then. I've got it set to auto renew the goody bag each month, but not any credit.
