My TV has taken to tuning itself on at random times! Then won't turn on when you want it too? WTF? I assume it means its on its way out technika telly a decade or so old.

Ruddy weird tho when it turns itself on in the middle of the night.
I blame the chemtrails!

It’s been hacked by the Russians to silence you for exposing their planes

My old TV (not a Technika) used to turn the sound on randomly.. a factory reset solved it (not necessarily through the available menus).

It may also be the remote (or batteries) dying.. try taking the batteries out and see if that helps.

Have you tried replacing the valves?

Obviously someone or something is trying to communicate with you through the tv. It's the only plausible explaination. Have you watched what was on when the tv turns itself on?

Any new energy saving lamps in the same room?
Once found a tv that did remote weirdness when a particular lamp in the room was on.
Customer took some convincing until I turned the lamp off and everything worked fine again.
Worth a try if you've only had this after replacing a lamp?

This. Make sure the remote isn't pointing at the TV and see if it still happens.

And when the TV powers up, if the film Poltergeist is on I'd be a tad concerned.

My old Panasonic plasma switches itself from standby to low power at 0907 and 1507 every day, the power relay clicks, I think it's to do with the EPG. It'll also do the relay clicking when power is interrupted even with the TV off. Maybe you're having brief power cuts and the TV's relay is malfunctioning to bring it all the way up instead of back to standby? Still probably a malfunction if it didn't used to do it though.

I turned itself on in the middle of the night - everything turned off in the flat!

I have put new batteries in the remote. I'll make sure the remote is out of the way when we go to bed tonight. Its turned itself on in the night 4 nights running now.

my mums samsung will turn it's self on every hour. can't find any setting for it so she has to turn it off at the wall. the surround sound receiver will turn it's self back on a couple minutes after it's turned off by the telly it then powers down about 30 mins later (have no idea why ! )

thought for a while it might be the neighbours remote 🙂

Years ago I had some issues with a Toshiba TV not powering up and powering off on it's own (not sure if it ever came on by itself though). Turned out to be dodgy capacitors (known issue with the model), just had to replace them (I think 4 or 6 of them at a couple of quid each) and was fine after (still running at a friends several years later). Was a bit of soldering but I'm ham fisted and used a £7 thing from Maplin and it all worked.

Our Samsung turns itself on occasionally. I put it down to our Borrowers catching up on late-night teleshopping.

Have you got Sky or anything on HDMI? It’s a well known problem for Sky Q boxes, mine did it a few times until I googled it and made some setting changes. Hasn’t happened since.

No sky or out else - just freeview. I do have a chromecast pugged in but even with that turned off it still does it. Slow turning on now - takes about ten mins of the blue light flashing what must be an error code before it starts.

I guess its toast. Some internal components breaking down and it was got second hand years ago so don't owe me much. Doubt its worth a repair.

Doubt its worth a repair.

I doubt you’ll find anyone who could fix it now anyway, most manufacturers only keep spares for about five years, or used to, at any rate.

Try unplugging that. As said, HDMI can turn TVs on. It might be the Chromecast having updated or something random.

My guess the capacitors are on the way out.

It's 10 year old budget brand TV. Not bad going for the modern disposal World.

Surprised you leave it on the wasteful stand-by mode mind? 🙂

Yeah mine (needing me to replace the capacitors) also started taking ages to display a picture after turning it on. You could see some were blown when you took the back off - worth taking a look as it's a few quid and half an hour of your time to fix if it's the case. If you google it you can see repair videos etc. although possibly not specific for that brand TV

We had a cheap Technika TV in the bedroom a couple of years back too. It started turning itself on in the middle off the night out of the blue. Really spooked the missus (I sleep through anything!).

Turns out it had a timer function to switch on at a predetermined time. This had somehow been enabled unknown to us.

Found this out, found the setting, disabled it again and all was good.

Sound's like yours might just be knackered though TJ.
