My Hitachi always annihilated everyone else's pathetic efforts (shortly before the batteries ran out) - but was the most awesome boom box ever established?
I had a what was it... mightuv bin a Hitachi actually. Was loud. 🙂
Then a mate bought a Sharp thing I think it was, which was louder. 🙁
I had the best choonz dem though, by far. 8)
EDIT: It was very simliar to that one, Harry!
My old chap had 500w static box speakers wired to his hi-fi. Bloody loud...but utterly pointless when all he played on it was Barbara Streisand or Frank Sinatra.
Showing your age there Elfi! They are more than 25 years old! Mine was still running until a couple of years ago doing service as a decorating radio.
I had an ace JVC one. Twin tape but one of those new fangled CD thingummies too!
Oh, and a Hitachi before that with much graphic equaliser action.
(Wtf were graphic equalisers really for, eh?)
BUT WHAT WAS THE LOUDEST??
Harry the Spider - got one of those in a cupboard upstairs still...
25 years old I think
The Sharp GF 777 was pretty bloody loud and goes for a lot of money on Ebay. Phillips also did one around the same time that had detachable speakers and was pretty bloody loud too, no idea of the model.
The more modern bass tube ones are much louder though.
I too had the Hitachi 3D Super Woofer. Suspect it was the last incarnation as CDs were at the point of taking over from cassettes. It currently resides in the garage and does a reasonable job of picking up Radio 5 Live. It was very loud, though distorted quite badly at the top end!
I'm going to have to body pop my way down town to buy one of these muthas.
Or maybe look on ebay for one.
My hand-me-down (from big sis) 80's ghetto-blaster must have been the loudest as it went all the way up to 11 8)
I had a silver Hitachi that looked a bit like the one Cougar posted. My Dad gave it me as it started chewing tapes, it was loads louder than my mates Philips Roller 2 that looked like it belonged in the early learning center, it was far cooler too... Until it chewed up the mix tapes you spent last night making.
Just looked it up - Intersound Super Jumbo J-747S
Things were named better back then.
Ahh ha, I too had the 3D SuperWoofer, I had a couple in fact, one for the house and one for the shed/patio... (That one was covered in thinners when I was repainting one of my bike frames back then, hence the new(er) one in the house)
I had many tapes to call on back then, but my everlasting memory of that sound system was playing Ratt's "Out of the Cellar" at full tilt with the 3D on and bass whacked right up during one very long hot summer with a Klein Attitude, 2 (bonkers) Spanials a forest valley at my gatepost and life just couldn't've got any better.
"I took the midnight subway train, calling all the shots"
Ahhh..
'Things were names better back then'....'the Brixton briefcase' perchance?
Looking at ebay, there's a huge market for these things. $1000 from china for mint examples!
Cougar, we had a Toshiba like that, but it played tapes slightly too quickly. Very bloody annoying, for me at least!
That's fantastic, think how quickly all your Spectrum games would load!
Spectrum - pah.
