Think along the lines of hitting the ramp just as the boat departs the dock....
Just planning a Paris trip on the bike. Returning to Dieppe on the train which arrives at 5pm. The boat departs at 6. Probably ten minutes from station to ferry terminal.
Anyone have any experience of late arrival for a channel ferry? Do you think there's more or less chance of being let on because we are on two wheels? Official advice is no less than an hour, but wondering what the chances are of squeezing on.
Next boat is 6hrs later and there are probably worse places to wait than Dieppe, but it'd make life much easier if we made it on the earlier one.
As long as the train is on time, then I reckon you'll be good. However the first phrase in that sentence is doing some heavy lifting.
No direct experience myself though.

You have a back-up, so go for it. A 6-hour wait is the worst that can happen....
I did a Dieppe/Dieppe century route last month and caught the 6Pm ferry. It's a pretty low key operation compared to Dover etc.. and I'm sure as long as you have passed passport control they will let you on.
5mins on the bike round the harbour from the station to the terminal;
I did an Ireland to gb ferry as the very last car on and only allowed on if I was confident reversing - forgot to allow for check in time. We drove on and then the ramp went up so it’s doable. We were also first car off so it actually worked out ok.
Excellent, that's enough validation to book the thing.
Worst that can happen isn't the later boat, it's the ride direct to work the following morning after zero sleep!
Thanks all 👍
We’ve been the last car on the ferry… were in the queue when a woman with a clipboard walked past, looked at our tickets and raised her eyebrows. She then proceeded to wave everyone out of the way, told us to head for the open door of the ferry, ignoring the no entry cones and keep going. They were raising the ramp before we’d turned the ignition off. Phew.
