What do I buy to make my old turntable work thru a newer amp. Is it called a phono stage or a pre amp or both or something else??? any recommendations, not too expensive.
some pre amps have a phono stage - I think you can buy the phono stage separately, no doubt Richer sounds will have something.
Yeah. You'll need a phono stage.
I don't know if they still do, but on some amps you used to be able to pay to have a phono stage added; my Dad got a Cambridge Audio amp from Richer Sounds and had the phono stage added there & then.
This is the kind of thing you are probably after:
... or you could keep that kidney and get one of these 😀
You'll probably find one cheaper if you look for a bit longer than I did
Wind the handle quicker..?
Richer sounds sell a perfectly decent one for about £20
It's what a got when I realised that the option marked "phono" on my amp wasn't actually a phone stage
Having said that I intend to upgrade to the one Rega do for about £80 at some point - I'm sure it will sound a bit better and it has a USB out so you can transfer to MP3 as well
Moving magnet or moving coil?
