Has anyone worked out a way? Wickes near me have click and collect but have suspended it due to high demand; similar for B & Q. Jewsons are shut, other builders merchants doing trade only

I got a lot of mine (pre lock down) through a third party seller. They have a web store or sell on eBay. Basically you buy from them, they order it from a trade counter with their bulk discount, it comes to you direct from trade counter. Worked out quite a bit cheaper for me and less haggling or getting stung by the trade counters mad pricing structure. Don't know if any of these are running at the moment but I suspect they will be.

Also, depending on what you need, there is quite a bit of stuff on Facebook marketplace. Probably a few abandoned projects out there.

Toolstation for small stuff and scour online for anything else. Really struggled to get some shower panels but eventually found a retailer that was trading and delivering.

I’m doing a self build and struggling to get materials and I’m in the trade with access to trade accounts. Problem is keeping up with demand once sites begin to open.
B & Q click and collect seems decent for smaller quantities

Travis Perkins are open at every branch (afaiaa).
You need to ring up in advance, give them card details over the phone, then they tell you when you can collect. We've got an account, so I'm not sure if anyone can use them, though I got the impression that you can.
I 've been to 3 branches this week, no problems at all.

Jewson just reopened near me this week. Though they had been open for essential work. Can’t get multi finish plaster from anywhere though. Only need two bags to finish my extension living room.

Apparently all plaster based products are in short supply. I couldn't get any board from a local supplier last week.

I managed to order £60 worth of plaster board and Celotex online, then got quoted £200 for delivery. I'm now ripping up the unused raised beds for wood and painting anything that doesn't move.

Think B&Q's superstores are open- there's a list on their website.

Yes B&Q now operating in the same way as supermarkets in terms of social distancing etc.The limitations are they're only dealing with what you can pick off the shelf. You can buy paint but not have colours mixed to order, you can buy ply but not have it cut to size and so on. So products but no services.

I'd imagine that'll maybe bump other trade suppliers into coming up with their own system. You might find a lot of independent merchants are resuming deliveries (if they had that capacity to begin with) even if their trade counter is closed.

Wickes were delivering but on a 2 week lead time albeit my last order was in week 1 of lockdown. I guess it's probably a lot worse now.

We've managed to get top soil easily at 1 week lead time from a local place and as it came on pallets I also now have ramp materials 😏

I went to Wickes yesterday to collect some drainage pipe. Realised they had bags of sand on pallets in the car park. Asked if I could pay for one now - no, click and collect 8 hour lead time. But.. it's.... There... I'm not about to argue in times like this, though.

A dude I spoke to in the builders yard told me there is no plaster anywhere and that it would be weeks until you could get any.

I was ordering plasterboard which seems ok bit actual plaster, he says you cannot get right now.

plasterboard is the same as plaster, not much of it about. i managed to get some from my local jewsons last friday as it was the first day they opened up along with plaster. my brother went for some on monday and they where limiting how much multi finish you could have and he said the plasterboard stocks where getting low. jtatkinsons opened a week earlier and they where out of plasterboard the next day.

long queues at B and Q, but if you have a trade card use the trade entrance, Wickes long queues on C AND C, also same for Toolstation, and delivery charges and times altered, many small builder are doing delivery only, Howdens are doing C AND C, if you order and await comfirmation email to collect.

Going to try again tomorrow also most have shorter opening times

Is the rest of the store cordoned off , or can you use this a cheeky route into the main areas ?

Check out small local places. Found they are still operating and have small delivery charges or you can call and collect.

B & Q full of old people shopping for garden plants and compost this morning. The couple behind me in the queue who were struggling with the concept of social distancing definitely shouldn't have been there. I felt guilty enough going for a single piece of deck plank to replace a piece that collapsed due to rot. Didn't feel so guilty after seeing many other people clearly out for a browse and wander around. Social distancing was non existent despite the whole store being divided up into 2m squares.
