i have an ongoing claim on a lost car, that had heated leather seats, my legal team need a quote to submit a claim, my local VW garage are unable to quote/ retrofit heated leather seats.

anyone gone down the install your own heated seats? who did you use, [west yorks]
only option i can see at the minute is USB ones of the ebay

Looking at doing the same. Gone from heated leather to non heated fabric.

You can buy the heating elements quite cheap but you would need to be able to slide them in under the leather which I imagine is more difficult than on fabric seats.

They could plug into a 12v socket and have a switch anywhere you like.

Could be easier to find a pair from a broken up car. Assuming you have the right loom connections behind the dash.

thanks guys, out of hundreds of cars of the model for sale when i got my old car it was the only one with leather heated seats, non around (out of hundreds available) when i got the replacement. so unlikely a scrapyard will have any, it seems an expensive option on new..
hence new/current car has fabric seats.

solicitor is happy going for like for like loss. but it doesnt seem available.

Honestly, does it ever really get so cold in the U.K. that heated seats are essential?
I’ve never had them in any car, including my latest one, and I can honestly say it’s not a feature that’s ever entered my mind as desirable.
Now, a heated screen, on the other hand, is something I’ve really missed every winter for the last fifteen years, and finally I’ve got another car with one - it was quite frosty this morning, sitting in the car with the motor running for a couple of minutes, until the ice started to craze, a couple of goes with the wipers and drive off; bliss, no more cold, numb fingers. 😁

Need? No, but they’re lovely. Especially after a cold winter ride.

My current ones heat the back as well as the bottom, they’re the bestest thing ever.

Cruise control...not essential, but once you've had it you want it going forward.

A/C not essential..but would you seriously consider a car without it....hell yes..only climate control for me now! one while we're at it dual zone...the mrs is so nesh.

Heated windscreen...not essential, but once you've had it you wonder why it was not one of the earliest innovations on the car full stop.

Auto gearbox...once you've grown into a proper adult and realise you're not Ayerton Senna reincarnate then you realise why the hell do we still bother with manual gearboxes

Heated seats...well again, I was a sceptic uniil I had a car with heated seats.

Thats progress. First world problems.

It's unclear what the OP's situation is however taking the query on Face value I'm not surprised the local dealership has no interest in retrofit...just a PITA when they can fill their workshop with nice simple and profitable services instead of having to think of a job. They want to shell peas. But nothing stopping you sourcing a set of seats from somewhere and installing them or finding a specialist to do it. Not sure if the standard wiring loom has all the plugs and connectors waiting to receive the seat connection and button connection for simplicity of assembly so all you need to do is plug in the seat and plug in the button and re=programme the can bus. I suspect its a little more involed than that so best to seek a specialist. They rarely make it so simple to retrofit stuff as it just de-values the option at new and that is where they make the money.

My wife’s old Lexus had cooled seats. They were the best things ever. Hot summer day with a cool breeze up your chuff.

As said you will need to source some seats and switches (if applicable) from a car being broken. It should just be a case of plugging them in, I'd be genuinely shocked if the loom wasn't there.

Honestly, does it ever really get so cold in the U.K. that heated seats are essential?

**** yes. Try dragging yourself outside into a winter morning after a 12 hour night shift and climbing into a freezing car. There is no word to properly describe that malnourished, sleep deprived coldness. My hands have been sore just from holding the steering wheel.

It really is as easy as you describe, the main factor being nobody makes aftermarket heated seats so why make things difficult for your production line? Those extra loom connections and plug and okay connectivity themselves in saved man hours.

For a van not a car but this company is an example of an outfit who will retrofit OEM seat heating. They’ll source the original heating controls so to all appearances the van will have factory fitted seat heating.

http://professionalvwconversions.co.uk/vw-transporter-genuine-heated-seats/

Depending on the vehicle it’s highly likely that it can be done.

Sorry that this isn’t much help for the specific issue but it seems there’s a mixed response so far that may be putting you off.

Man who's never had them, can't see the benefit of them... You not got a dropper either 😉

Except they stick those little paddles on the side of the stearing wheel in some autos for the people who still think their Ayerton Senna. 🤣

Isn't that normal then? I would have assumed a heated seat was just that, not merely a heated arse.

My van has it on the driver seat, middle of the pads are heated but the bolsters aren't which feels a bit odd, warm backs of legs/centre of back but cold on the side.

Pffft! Heated seats? Heated steering wheel's are where it's at these days. My latest jalopy has one and it's ace (plus the seats and the screen). Just need a 'chap' now to do all the driving chores and no more heating concerns pour moi 😁

My wifes last car was an VW EOS. The heating element had broke in the drivers seat and VW wanted close to £1200 to repair/replace. Needless to say we did not get it fixed.

Heated seats are great with Leather but I cant see the benefit for Fabric in fact I dont think I have ever seen Fabric Seats heated.

My hands have been sore just from holding the steering wheel.

You can get heated steering wheels now, I want one.

Isn’t that normal then? I would have assumed a heated seat was just that, not merely a heated arse.

I don't know, my Passat was just heated arse, as was my Exeo, my Superb has heated back and arse.

Heated seats are great with Leather but I cant see the benefit for Fabric in fact I dont think I have ever seen Fabric Seats heated.

I've got heated alcantara seats, heated seats are usually standard fit on higher spec cars that tend to come with leather anyway, so they sort of go hand in hand, but heated cloth seats are just as nice.

Except they stick those little paddles on the side of the steering wheel in some autos for the people who still think their Ayerton Senna

Yep, my DCT / DSG has got paddles, DCT is generally a bit more clunky than a traditional auto at slow speeds, but they speed of shifts is insane. The Ferrari Enzo was supposed to have the best of the old-school semi-auto boxes that were big in the 00s and journalists praised the super fast shifts, whilst some owners complained it was too abrupt - it shifts in 150 milliseconds. The DSG in my old-man diesel Skoda can do it in 8 milliseconds, and unless you press all the right buttons to make it as 'sporty' as possible and shift manually at full throttle, you don't feel them. That said, I'd be amazed if anyone uses the paddles more than once.

You want a price for some second hand heated leather seats? If so a pair of heated Recaro's from a Focus ST170 sell for between £200 and £300 depending on condition. Then you'd need fitting so I'd imagine £500 wouldn't be far off.

As for heated seats and steering wheels, my wife's car has them, she uses them all the time, I never use the seats but every so often the steering wheel.

Transit Connect. Also, only on the driver seat as the passenger is a bench with lots of folding functions.

I’ve never had them in any car, including my latest one, and I can honestly say it’s not a feature that’s ever entered my mind as desirable.

My essentials list for any car purchase is as follows
Heated leather seats
Decent cup holders
Auto box so I can drink tea
Centre arm rest
Bluetooth connection for stereo ( I suspect this requirement will be replaced with Apple Airplay in future)
Cruise control

I don’t care about much else.

thanks for all the links, information,
and to the rest of you maybe read the article.

the car was written off, its the solicitors job to put me back into the position i was in before the third party did what he did and that is to have a nice warm back and bum while driving :0).

if your carbon sc bike was written of in an accident would you expect to get a £300 voucher for halfords as replacement

and yes it can be that cold that they come in useful, ride in british winter soaked to the bone were you can no longer feel your toes/legs and hands and a heated seat brings you around..

After owning a Skoda with DSG my priority is as follows:

1. Cost of the repair.
2. Is the repair even possible.

the professional vw retrofit guys might be able to help, give them a call

My car (van) is the first vehicle I've had for years without heated seats. Don't miss them because I never used them previously. My wife was the only one to use them.

Actually, I lie. I sometimes put them on for mates in the summer, just for kicks 🙂

Cars don't go to scrappies any more. Well, they do but not the stacked up old cars you see in industrial estates. They are all broken and sold on eBay, which is brilliant because even obscure used parts are available - if there's one in the country you can find it.

I just did an eBay search for Passat (guessing) heated leather seats and got hundreds of hits, seems £250 is about the ballpark. In fact, I am rather tempted myself!
