Last time I was there (many years ago mind) there used to be free buses from terminal to terminal. If you were there at odd times, then you could call them from a free phone. Used it to get from where we landed to the terminal with the subway station into NYC.

There's a free train that runs between the terminals (and then on into town).
It should be a case of walking out of the terminal, up some stairs/lift to the train platform, wait a few mins for the train (they are every 5 mins or so from memory), go a few stops then downstairs to the other terminal.
Train I think which is easy enough. Last time I was there it was getting baggage through security again that was the issue
