You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I’m assuming some one who actually goes cycle touring or works away will post some crazy numbers. That’s great it’s just another way of looking back at the year
So how many different places have you slept this year? Home counts as one. I’m assuming naps are not included
I’m on 31 different places with a total of 63 nights away in 2025
Crikey how on earth did you keep track? It's bad enough monitoring my walking miles and cycling miles and now I need to consider my nights away too! Not a clue!
Much less than intended. However quite a few visits to folk involve an overnight stay the big trip to Canada included a good few. In approximate order:
Milngavie, then to Canada for Whitehorse, Dawson city, Eagle plains, Inuvik, Watson lake, Stewart, Prince Rupert, Campbell river, Torfino, Nanaimo, Vancouver, Toronto, Huntsville Back to Scotland. Glenrothes, Cloich hills, Peebles, La Mancha, Upper largo, Boness, Moorfoot hills, Altandhu, Blair atholl, near Newton Stewart, near Castle Douglas, then to the netherlands Harlingan including 2 nights on the ferry in the middle of the north sea
so thats 28+ different places. ( I might have forgotton a few) I estimate 90+ nights away from home. Only 5 nights wild camping and 2 nights on a campsite which is a disappointment
Edit - just remembered Colne valley as well
Edit2 Port of menteith - brings me to 30+
Dagnamitt tighnabruaich as well.
we have had a good year.
started off with a week in Norway for the Fat Viking.
then a good weekend in the Lakes for jennride winter thing.
march was a long weekend in the Borders doing some long walks.
then a week in Northumberland with the kids and grandkids in may. warm and sunny, managed some sea swimming.
june saw me in the borders and Edinburgh on a long bike ride.
september saw us in France for a month on a lovely bike tour which stretched into october.
and this week we have been on a mini tour via the pennines and south dales.
not sure of total day, but lots, and moreso all miles that make smiles................ ace.
2. And that includes home. The other was Poolewe for six nights
it should have been at least six but as I couldn’t sit an a car or on a train or aeroplane for any length of time between January and September it rather ruined our plans

Does my van count as one or many?

According the non existent rules for this game it’s one for each place you parked it. I’m assuming the other end in the layby isn’t different, the other side of town is
But as above. It’s about reflecting on what you’ve been upto as much as a number
Just noticed Upper Largo where I lived 12 years growing up, did you walk up Lergy Law for the cracking view south over the Firth of Forth and a few munros North and West
I think 12 places and around 30 days.
Mix of self catering cottages, b&b, glamping pod, tent on a site, and a couple of wild camp hammocks.
Actually surprised me as I feel Iike I've had really shit year health wise and still waiting to see if I can get another knee replacement. Mam passing away put a damper on things.
Looking back it's definitely been better than I remember and did a couple of little bike trips with different friends in glamping pods and B&B.
Definitely hoping for more trips away on the bike in 2025 but having to use an ebike means just an overnight camping, or otherwise paid for accommodation.
Saying that now being on a CPAP means wild camping will be more difficult; either suffocate or take some big power bank thing along with the machine, both of which add bulk and weight.
It’s almost a ‘how bad for the environment are you ?’ post
No wonder the environment is ruined :-(. But at least we all had an holiday :-).
I'm alright Jack, and F-U.
I’ve had nights away that were a 15 minute train ride and then a night cycling back home. i have flown to Croatia this year. Typical has been me and 2 mates driving to Southhampton and then Ferry to the Isle of Wight
Bikepacking is definitely at least 1 per 24 hours
It’s almost a ‘how bad for the environment are you ?’ post
apart from my canada trip which was very much a one off almost all the rest was done by bicycle and public transport which is why I often stay over when visiting pals
4
1. Spain in January at my brother's place for my 60th birthday trip
2 . My partner lives 1km away and I've stayed there almost as many times as I've slept in..
3. my own bed
4. 1 or 2 nights (plus tonight will be) at my mate's in Oxfordshire
what do I win?
30 different places across 49 nights. All in our motorhome.
Only done a few weekends away this year then did 12 night trip to France in March and a 28 night European tour for our honeymoon in September.
Hopefully get more weekends away in 2025.
Im in the stratospheric camp becuase of work - i've circumvented the globe at least twice not includng my big US bike trip, so ive no idea on numbers. However i do have a question for others that have the big numbers - - How does this affect home life, with you - is it all very supportive or "sigh -you're away again -its not fair i have the kids etc etc" (not downplaying btw)?
Sui
I live on my own. I am retired. If my partner was still alive she would have been with me
I live in a van, so about 365 days/nights.
We always do pretty well with this - the perk of teaching.
13 weeks a year holiday and we are always away, plus weekends in the van...
NY was islay in the van, different spots each night and the journey.
Feb h/t Austria snowboarding, folkestone, Austria, Calais over the week
Easter was Brittany for 2 weeks, probably 8 or so different locations
May was a tour of colonsay, coll, tiree. 7 different places
6 weeks summer was Norway cycle tour, we didn't do more than 1 night anyway.
October was Ireland in the van, 5 different places
Xmas we have been in Orkney, although most of that the same location.
We probably do 2 weekends a month on average too, sometimes only half an hour away.
So yep big numbers that I can't be bothered to work out exactly, thanks for the prompt to look back over the year. Nice to be able to remind ourselves that when work feels exhausting there is a big advantage.
My wife wasn’t with me for about a third of these. I think i did 3 locations going to Scillies’s with my daughter
Mrs Ampthillis always up for a trip. Over the years we’ve had plenty of time together. So her having evening meetings and me shooting off didn’t seem to be a problem. Kids have left the nest
It kind of feels like cheating when you have a motorhome as apart from trips to the alps we rarely spend more than 2 nights at the same place. For example in a week in the Lake District we spent the night in 4 different places just because we could and it meant less driving to and from a single base.
Not the best year for us as a broken collarbone interefered with the summer but we did 47 nights and 23 places plus whatever I have missed
Ooh, good game. From perusing the Electronic Calendar of Truth on Google, I get...
January - a night at a friend's house in Derby, a night at a hotel in Droitwich, two nights in a bunkhouse in Gradbach
February - six nights in a hotel in Taviria in Portugal
March - a night at my folks' house, a night at a hotel in Swindon, two nights on two different scout hut floors
April - Sixteen nights in four campsites, one hotel and a ferry in France
May - One night in Swindon
June - Two nights in a tent at a scout camp near Leek, one night in a carpark in Oswestry. I'm sure I was down at my folks at some point too.
July - One night in Swindon
August - Two nights in a tent at a scout camp near Stone
September - Fourteen nights in fourteen different places in Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Montenegro, one night in Llangollen, two nights in a tent at a scout camp near Northwich
October - One night in Swindon
November - Two nights in Glasgow, two nights in Swindon, one night on a scout hut floor in Disley
December - One night at friends' house in Derby
So sixty for the year. Blimey.
February - Beverley - 2 Nights
February - China - 7 Nights - Work
March - Lanzarote - 7 Nights
May - Croatia 1 Night, Bosnia 3 Nights, Montenegro 1 Night, Albania 2 Nights - Cycle Tour with 7 different stops....all cheap hotels etc rather than camping.
May - Taunton 1 Night - Work
June - Germany - 2 Nights - Work
August - Fuerteventura - 14 Nights
October - York 1 Night, Scarborough 1 Night
16 locations. 42 days in total.
We are planning UK holidays this year.
Damn, it's 5 - One night in a hotel in Brighton after a Forest Swords gig. Bloody marvellous it was.
I hate everything about going away by plane, not scared of flying, just find it all ****ing tedious. Any trip away is ruined by the return journey. But I might be persuaded to go somewhere exotic this year for some eBiking and other touristy crap (don't tell her I said that!). Uzbekistan is heading the list at the mo.
I've decided to give it a crack because I think it's a good way of reflecting as well.
- Long weekend in Prague x 1
- Home x 2
- Visited my parents for a fortnight or so in mid France and stayed in an airbnb as well as some accomodation the night before the ferry x 5
- Went to Scotland in the van for a week and would have stopped somewhere different every night x 14
- I went up to Scotland again in June by myself with the van and the dog x 19
- Returned to the West Mids for a week and a bit including a jaunt down to FOD x 24
- Newton Stewart area for a week x 29
- Spain for a week biking including a night over before the flight x 31
- Another ten days in Scotland with Ash in September x 41
- Bologna for the week x 42
- Went to visit my Best Mate for a week x 43
- Stayed a few nights in Manchester x 44
I think that's maybe all of them.
28 nights under canvas this year
42 nights over 8 trips (non work) including 5 extra nights “stranded” in Bali due to volcanic ash ?
43 overnights away, 37 for work. 37 separate trips. All in UK
17 trips to London involving one or more overnights, which explains why I twitch when I hear the word 'Avanti'. Other exotic destinations include Glasgow (x2), Manchester Airport (not actually going anywhere), Bangor and Warrington. Nothing to compete with 'stranded in Bali'.
Infinite, you never sleep in exactly the same place twice.
Just 2
A few days in Devon visiting family.
A week in Wales.
#mustbenofinancialcrisisonSTW
19 under canvas in two locations, contributing to a total of 47 nights away in total in 20 different locations across 8 different countries. I think we took a single one-way flight.
