Hi all.
I bought my second set of Ebay Cree lights in November, as I'd had the older ones for over 2 years, they'd worked faultlessly, and a backup set seemed a good idea. The seller, a 'power seller' with a good rep, offered a 3 month warranty- so all good.
Lo and behold, the week before the warranty expired, the things refused to charge. I entered into a dialogue with the seller, where he (or she?) asked me to do some testing, and between us we worked out that the battery had a fault.
And then- on the day the warranty would have expired!- he ups and says- warranty has expired, can do nothing to help you! I remind him that we've been in dialogue for nearly a week, but no- warranty's expired, guy.
And after a couple of internal Ebay emails, he/she ignores me- its been 3 or 4 days since I've heard anything.
I know its only £31.99 gone, and the lamp unit seems good, but its the principle of the thing. It seems its outside Ebay's 45 day thing, so googling seems to indicate there's not much I can do.
Or can I?
Just buy a new battery. A lot if people throw them away straight away anyway. The lights are great but much better batteries are available.
If I was a cynic, it would seem the seller dragged things out to take you over the warranty expiration date.
Not much you can do really. Paypal/eBay have 45 days, changing to 30 days soon I think, to raise a dispute. If the funds were taken via paypal from your debit card you may be able to initiate a chargeback....but I am 50/50 on whether I just made this up. Could always use it as an idle threat.
You won't be able to raise a case so unfortunately I think you've lost a bit of cash there mate.
Its cool. New batteries! Might make my own?
Buy another set from him then return it with the duff battery or just get another battery as suggested.
That's not how warranties work; you've registered the fault with the seller within the warranty period, ergo it failed under warranty.
Buy another set from him then return it with the duff battery
We have a winner
Hmmm....
🙂
Thats not a bad idea....
Would distance selling rules cover a return?
Buy another set from him then return it with the duff battery
Dammit. I wish I had come up with that.
Cougars right I'd be contacting eBay and showing them all the dialogue that you have been having and ask them for their help.
If that fails buy another and send the other back under distance selling regs, make sure it's on a Buy it Now, not an auction as you'll have full distance selling regs behind you!
