You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi all
So, I'm having a go at LEJOG and I've kinda decided on the YHA route I found here:
https://www.cyclinguk.org/route/gpx-file-lands-end-john-o-groats-yha-route
This is the whole route and a GPX file of 425kb.
I've downloaded it onto my phone and can use it in a couple of GPX apps, no problem.
However, I can't get it onto my Garmin - I've never had any issues previously getting files onto my 810, 520 or Oregon 600. Is it the case that the file is too big and needs breaking down?
I know I can just go with the phone, but I'd like it on the Garmin too for a backup/alternative. Anyone able to offer a way to get this done?
How many points in the route?
Convert it to a track.
Break it up into several chunks (one per day).
It's too big. Copy it over into RideWithGPS and split it into daily chunks so you're only ever using one day's ride per file. Otherwise it'll use up vast amounts of memory trying to recalculate every wrong turn and be almost unusable.
As a rough guide, I try to avoid more than about 200km on a single file. For a longer single-day ride, split into two, finish the first half, load the second. If you can time that split with a lunch stop, it works perfectly. Files can always be combined later to give one seamless ride (assuming you end each day and start the following day in the same location).
