I am considering getting the Honor 7x phone however this is the CN China version (not in the UK yet), I totally get that I need to get all the Google play stuff on there to make it work for me but is there anything else that needs to be done or somebody who has successfully been through the same process and had no problems?

Not overly bothered about that as only a cheap phone and have insurance

I went the Chinese route for a while.

Good if you want to tinker around with them and don't care about updates and bugs being sorted quickly, if ever...

Got a second-hand pixel now. Much more expensive even second-hand but boy, made me realise what a compromise the Chinese androids were.

Not putting you off by the way, great to tinker with as I said.

Personally I waited for UK sellers to get the models I wanted into stock.

Have a bit of come back then. QC can be a bit optional in some of these niche brands! Lol

I've got a ZUK Z2 from China. It's a Lenovo phone just brand differently so is essentially a Motorola. Pretty much stock android and no problems with play or anything. Was only £130 so if it makes two years I'm happy and not bothered about lack of OTA updates.

Just bought an Umidigi Z1 for the Mrs, hoping that will as good.

Check out the 4G bands your provider uses, and whether the phone supports them. A lot of Chinese phones don't support Band 20 which some providers use for most of their 4G coverage.

its possible to buy an honor phone in a 'three' shop so you will get warranty etc. quite s good deal, too.

I've been on a Chinese phone for 18 months now (bombproof Black view BV6000).

There's been no big disasters or problems in that time and there's not really much difference in operating systems between it and previous Samsung Galaxy phones I've had.

Mini carlosg mk2 has had an Umidigi Diamond X for 12 months and apart from the cameras being a bit meh is happy with it, Mrscarlosg had a Vernee Thor and hated it as it appeared to have a mind of its own.

Two OK phones out of three , just do plenty of research to make sure you're getting what you need.

I've had the Honor 7 for a couple of years now and it's been excellent. No hint of it being Chinese and still performs pretty well, unlike a Samsung of similar age.

Like Carslog went Chinese a 4 months ago with a Blackview, BV7000 model, as I keep smashing phones and it was getting both irritating and expensive.
Seems to work just fine and for the features, 3/4/5G, dual sim, Gorilla glass, IP68 rating, , dual GPS, long battery life, 64GB memory etc it was very cheap compared with the equivalent Samsungs.
Build and reliability seem good for the price, around 150GBP in this case.

I really rate my 6X but it's a fully UK localised version. It wasn't drastically more expensive to get it in the UK than it would have been to import, even without taxes... So I guess here it's mostly about the availability?
