Can't you guess? Average indie, made it big from fake sales originally, I believe. They're ok. Not shit, not great, but haven't toured for a while so people are going totally mental for tickets to see them in massive venues.

Correct. £500+ to see the Arctic Monkeys. I despair of the world.

£80 for a seated ticket near the back, sunday night in Birmingham for my eldest trumpet is too much in my eyes, those prices above are ridiculous.

£80 for a seated ticket near the back

£80 for any ticket anywhere to see anyone is too much in my eyes!

Let alone something generic, non-original and ordinary.

It's amazing what people will pay to look cool on Facebook.

That’s got to be one of those resale sites like Getmein, Shirley? They’re licensed touts, I honestly can’t believe anyone in their right mind would pay more than £60-70; it would have to be someone truly exceptional to make me pay more than around £50 for a ticket. I did for Kate Bush, but that was a once-in-a-lifetime event.

While I quite like the Arctic Monkeys, I prefer Last Shadow Puppets. Wouldn’t bother paying to see either, though. And £6-800 per ticket? Taking the piss, that is!

Nope, I have nothing against his band... it's something else that's wound me up. Can't you spot it?

DezB in musical-snobbery shocker

See above

 I prefer Last Shadow Puppets

Saw them a year or so ago (someone else paid). They were pretty boring - only really good song they did was a cover of Moonage Daydream (it was just after Bowie died so musta bin 2016).

FWIW - I don't dislike Arctic Monkey but I'm in a minority in that I think Suck it and See is their best album.

And their basic ticket prices for this tour were very reasonable (£43.45 at Sheffield Arena). And as of this moment tickets still available direct from Sheffield Arena website.

Most I've paid to see a single band is £55 for Killers last year - but it was a ruddy great show!

I wouldn't pay £80.00 to see the second coming of Christ.

Honestly? No. Apart from something about fake sales that I don't understand.

I don't care what the band is I'm never ever going to see them if they have seats.

LolZ - person who asked me to get the Monkey's tickets went to see them as well. Yay for ordinary pop!

@IHN - t.i.c.k.e.t.  p.r.i.c.e.s.  Apologies for being too cryptic for you.

Sometimes a fix of ordinary pop is what you need! 'Challenging' music is rather tiresome.

I don't disagree muffin-man... but.. .. see, when people start to think £43+ is "reasonable" - it's a losing battle isn't it. People have just come to accept these utterly ****ing ridiculous prices to see bands. I won't. EVER!!!

Sorry, I wasn't sure if you were making a specific point about ticket pricing or just having your usual pop at other people's musical tastes.

Nope - it's inflation. When I look back at old concert tickets from the late 80's and 90's the bigger bands were £20 and £25 then.

Were they? I would've thought they were the super-stars , like Bowie 🙂

The preference is marginal, like I said, I wouldn’t pay to see either, and I’ve got two Puppets albums, only because they were on a cheap offer.

It’s the only way bands can make any money from the music industry these days. When I was active in the industry most of the bands earned their living from album sales and usually made a loss from touring. Now with digital music consumption there is sweet FA left for the band in music sales so their money has to come from somewhere and because getting hold of music is so easy these days people are prepared to spend money on the ‘experience ‘ of going to a live concert.

Having said all that I personally I still baulk at paying more than 15 quid to see a band.🤘😀🤘

Oasis at Knebworth was £24.50 in 96

So just shy of £46 today

I've paid over the odds (about £80 ish) to see the Foos in a month or so.

They're far from ground breaking, but usually put on a good set, often with impressive guests for the obligatory encore.

I'm more looking forward to seeing Idles (£20-ish) next week though.

I think the best value for money gig for me was last year, seeing Kojey Radical in a small little venue in Bristol, for...

Two whole pounds. My gig-mate thought I was taking the piss when I told him there was no need to transfer any money over for the tickets. 🙂

And he was excellent. Mind you, the next time I saw him, it cost just under a tenner and he'd definitely gone a bit big time, turning up late and using backing tracks instead of a band...shockin'!

Gang Of Youths coming up in a couple of weeks at Thekla. £11 that cost - I'll just drink water I guess.

I rather like the "average" AMs and have done for some time. Would even be interested in seeing them live but not at those prices.

Anyway - come on educate me - what's "above average" these days - pls don't mention some obscure live only bands, has to be stuff I can download.

Biggest problem is as soon as somebody else has heard of a band they ain't cool anymore. you had to be there before 😉

I love Arctic Monkeys - might help that I'm from Sheffield? Their homecoming gig 7 years ago was awesome.

No-one's heard the new album yet, so that could have some bearing on whether this gig will be any good.

Sat at the computer (and 2 phones) at 9am this morning trying to get on Ticketmaster and another site - by the time I breached the 'queue' anything decent was sold out - had been trying for Sheffield, but that was Tues/Weds showings.

By chance, as I was having a moan on a mates (who'd got tickets) FB post, a sponsored band post popped up below for extra dates - clicked on it and straight away got standing tickets for Saturday £70 each from See Tickets

Exactly right, it cost me £6 the second time I went to see AM's. First time was free coz they were the support act!!

I resent paying over £30 now unless there are several bands on the lineup

I rather like..

Says it all! Paying £80 to see something which inspires such faint praise!

Would even be interested in seeing them live but not at those prices. - me too, I said "I'll come with you" to the person who asked me to book (incidentally, she did get tickets in the end) until I saw the price. Then I swore.

There would have been profanity if I’d been in your position as well! Some years back Tom Waits announced a couple of gigs, and I was really keen to see him, I’ve loved his music since ‘Small Change’, but then I saw the tickets were around £75, so that was a non-starter. More recently King Crimson announced UK dates, playing theatres around the U.K., including That London. Tickets started at £88 at the back, and went over £100 for the best seats at the front! Bugger that! They’re a band I’ve loved since school, ‘In The Court Of...’ was the first rock album I ever heard, a classmate loaned it to me when it came out in 1969, but I’d never seen them, and unless I win a lottery, I never will at those prices.
