I have a phone that I download my favourite radio show onto. The phone is nearly full up , so how do I get them onto the mac book and hopefully onto apple music.

When the phone is plugged into the mac book it wants to restore phone to a 2021 back up. Will that wipe all the downloads I've done since then?

You say it is a radio show. And you say it is a podcast. And that you downloaded it. This opens up a few possibilities for what you did with this alleged download.

If you used the Apple podcast app that is also on MacOS and provided you are signed into both apps with the same AppleID you can expect to see your subscriptions and listening state and listening history in both.

If you used the BBC Sounds app then signing into bbc.co.uk using your browser with the same account you used on the iPhone should eventually get you to your things.

If you actually downloaded something on your iPhone using Safari then provided you are signed into iCloud with the same AppleID on both iPhone and Mac then you should be able to navigate to iCloud/Downloads on Mac and find files you downloaded there on iPhone.

Otherwise 🤷🏻‍♂️

Actually moving the content from iPhone to Mac 🤷🏻‍♂️, not sure that was a thing for anything but photos content even back in the days of me.com.

Edit. I now see you said ‘phone’ rather than iPhone. 🤔 if it is some sort of Android device then you can probably use a cable to plug it into your Mac and if you are lucky then it will appear as a removable drive in Finder and you can search or navigate to where the file is likely stored and then drag it to the Music app or the music app’s watched folder. Unlucky? You’ll have to find some sort of phone management application for macOS and use that.

It’s an iPhone and the podcasts are on the Podomatic app.
When plugged into the Mac it wants to either set up as new phone or restore from 2021 backup.

The iPhone was backed up to the cloud yesterday morning. There’s no mention of that.
I thought I’d be able to plug iPhone in ,see what was on there and simply move it to the MacBook.

If I go the nuclear option of buying an iPhone/ iPad with larger capacity will I be able to set it up from the iCloud backup. Will that backup include all the shows stored on the iPhone or just the app itself?
The phone is used purely to listen to the radio shows in my shop.

Can you just delete some of the downloaded episodes to free up space?

When you say downloaded, how are you playing the files and what are they? Are you downloading mp3s that you could play with any app or is it like when you download something in Spotify where it's hidden and only easily playable within Spotify.

If the latter then I doubt you can just move the files onto a desktop and play them there. Can you redownload them from the Apple music or podcast app on the MacBook?

If your backed up to iCloud I’m sure you can just tell it to only store older podcasts on the icloud. That’s what my phone does with photos. Or just open iCloud on your Mac. Save stuff to the Mac, some where independent of iCloud, then delete it from your phone

I think realistically I’m going to need a bigger phone.

Is absolutely everything going to be moved over from one iPhone to another?

What are you actually trying to achieve?
Do you want an offline copy of the podcasts somewhere so that you can put them on your phone later if needed? Or do you want every episode saved on the phone itself? Or just available via the cloud/download?

It’s an iPhone and the podcasts are on the Podomatic app

you maybe want to look at the documention and support for that app in terms of how to back up / transfer material

but if they are podcasts are they not just all available still to just steam or download up any app?

Ideally every episode in the cloud but happily settle for all of them on a phone for playback.
The shows are perfect for listening to in the shop. I can just press play and it's nice music all at the same sound level.
With a playlist on Apple music the volumes can be all over the place.
On Podomstic there is a button to download the show onto your device.
That option goes after a month.
In a few years I'm sure my trusty iPhone 6 won't even turn on ,I'm trying to future proof the shows by backing them up .

Not really what you asked but sounds like the best solution would be a cheap/2nd hand phone or tablet as a dedicated device for playing music for your shop, utilising external storage.

With a playlist on Apple music the volumes can be all over the place.
you know there’s an option in Settings to account for this (Sound Check)?

If running from IPhone to Mac then check if there is a Podomstic app for the Mac 1st and download and sign in.

if wanting to share older downloaded ones that are on phone but not available to download then could you Airdrop them to your Mac? Avoids having to plug the phone into the Mac.
