Major incident in the Highlands due to snow and ice. Hope they can get everyone off the roads safely.
eek, sounds bad
nothing much to report on this side of the Irish Sea, a bit blowy and wet along Belfast Lough this afternoon

My in-laws are flooded again, having been flooded out in the unnamed storm on 8th October. This is Bridge of Allan.
Builders were due to start in a week, having had the house drying out for 10 weeks.
The BiL and family, lush (not in the good way) of a SiL and yappy dog have rented a house 6miles away. Unfortunately the road is flooded.
Yes there are at least two other ways to get there but that's not a risk I'm willing to put myself through.
I'm sorry about your folks @matt_outandabout, I've been flooded, its awful. The storm was less dramatic Manchester way having been forecast for the end of the world as we know it.
Lots of flooded roads and trees down here in Angus. We were all headed to the village this morning, but the roads were too flooded to get there #FirstWorldProblems
Just saw Cupar on the news with plenty of flooded houses, poor sods 😔
My lad was lucky to get the last train in to Glasgow from down south.
Working tonight so muggins here had a lucky dad-taxi escape.
It sounds grim up there, all the best
My daughter came home for Xmas and was supposed to be returning today but all avenues for escape are currently closed 🙂 The snow gates at Drumochter are scheduled to re-open tomorrow morning so we'll so how that goes.
Trees down all over the place in Fort William. Some damage to roofs. Had to walk to work today às cycling would have been impossible and unsafe
Stuck down in Ayr as home up the A9 not on today. Just glad we opted to stay put when saw conditions earlier or else could’ve been stuck at Drumochter most of the day. Shall attempt drive North tomorrow.
Been tearing up here in the west of Ireland all day. So bad it stopped me going to the pub last night.
Short video of A9 at Dalwhinnie in this article.

Good luck to those of you effected. Nothing much happened here in sunny Leith
The A90 is currently shut due to flooding at Laurencekirk and at Forfar, which may make my plans to travel back from Westhill to Edinburgh tomorrow a bit more awkward.
Stuck in Westhill? You have my sympathies.
Hope everyone is okay up there, makes me want to get some snow chains for my emergency car kit. Oxfordshire hadn’t had snow for a few years now, so feels pointless it’s very mild today but windy.
Current car kit is mainly old waterproof trousers a pair of walking boots, a goretex pro sailing jacket from a charity shop, a ex army poncho and some five year OOD energy gels. The kit is mainly overflow from my wardrobe that won’t shut because it’s too full. Thinking about it I could shove a sleeping bag in too.
Highland MSP Fergus Ewing succeeds in getting Scottish Government to treat vehicles trapped on A9 in Storm Gerrit as national emergency
And now we have a full on thunderstorm, in the winter.
Pitlochry to Dunkeld took a full hour earlier. Just the remnants of the flooding. Lots of sandbags in doorways in Dunkeld too..
That train 😲 Bet the driver needs new trousers.
The house was shaking here last night in the wind at times but didn't cause any problems.
Amazing scenes in Stalybridge though: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-67832935
Amazing scenes in Stalybridge though:
I can see the satire headlines now about a tornado ripping through and causing several hundred pounds worth of improvements to the area... 😉
There was an almighty lighting strike and thunder clap reported on the North Yorkshire Weather fb page last night around Ingleton. Pretty full on weather just now.
In laws in Staly, tornado came straight up their road, their house ok other than losing a few tiles and the elec going off. Others around not so including the one directly opposite losing its entire roof! FIL found a large shed roof in his garden, origin unknown. All his patio furniture including a glass table was wrecked, looked like it had been whisked up into the air and dumped from a great height. His car was hit by lightning and has had the roof and windscreen smashed, plus what looks like fried wiring loom hanging underneath. Strongly suspect it is a write off unfortunately.
Hope everyone is okay up there, makes me want to get some snow chains for my emergency car kit.
Only any use if you're planning on being the the first car on the road. You can have chains, 4 wheel drive, 6 wheel drive, caterpillar tracks - all count for nothing if all the vehicles in front of you are stationary. Warm clothes and plenty water are the better bet. As is not letting your fuel run low.
I've spent the night stuck in the snow in the A9 - it's not that big a deal really - it's not a survival situation - It's just waiting. Frankly being stuck was really quite relaxing compared to the conditions that preceded being stuck.

At this time of year they migrate from Kansas
