What do we reckon then? CDU/CDU-SPD grand coalition, or ‘Kenya’?

Belgium, but not because of the flag. They've only been discussing coalition since June and (I think) finally sorted it last week. Their previous record of 652 days wasn't troubled

Think it’ll be done and dusted before that.

Merz saying interesting (and maybe unexpected) things about Europe needing to be less tied to the US…

Here in the wf household we are happy to see that the FDP will probably not be in parliament (good enough for them for throwing their toys out and screwing over the last coalition causing this mess). Not sure if having the BSW break the 5% mark is a good thing or not. For getting things done probably better they don't and we get a black-red coalition. But if they do then have the greens as minor part won't be the end of the world to keep the CSU and more extreme factions of the CDU honest!

I’m really not clear on whether BSW got enough vote share to get any seats? Guardian suggesting they did, but even then there are enough Union/SPD seats for a two-party coalition?

Guardian now saying BSW got 4.97% which makes sense, so presumably Union/SPD coalition it is.

Interesting that the CSU/CDU won the vote in the former West Germany and Berlin, and AfD in the former DDR?

My understanding is that AfD has always been stronger in the former East Germany, it's never quite caught up with the former West Germany so more fertile ground for dissatisfaction. I think Merkel was from the East originally and that may have soothed things, though her immigration policy is arguably one of the drivers

In the East they are not particularly on foreigners. Particularly those in Russian uniforms!

And yet, the AfD is very pro-Russian.

Odd isn't it?
