We've booked an AirBnB in Berlin and the host is asking for us to complete a form with home address and a photo of my passport. Is this legit? I know European hotels often want to see a passport on arrival, but I've never had this before on AirBnB, although I haven't booked anything in Germany before.
The host does, or Airbnb does? I've had to do it to rent somewhere in the UK recently after not using my account for years. I thought it was part of Airbnbs verification checks.
Stayed in a couple of German AirBnB's last year and didn't have to do this, one in Austria I had to fill in a form that included passport number.
Stayed at an Automated hotel near Nürnberg in Sept and we had to scan our passports to gain entrance.

The host does.
Might be similar to Spain, crack down on Air-B&B'ers cooking the books, so they have to declare to the authorities who is staying and how long for for every rental?
Ha has said it's to comply with some legislation or other
I have certainly had this booking places abroad that are not air bnb. It's a bit unnerving but it seems to be common ime
My brother has a small annex that he airbnb's, he got a email recently from the police about county line use of air bnb properties to sell drugs in targeted areas. So there is an increased vigilance on who is staying in these properties and much more scrutiny of personal id.
Airbnb hosts in Germany have to keep records of their guests

This is standard in Italy - it is the law.
Standard in Germany and Spain now.
As above, all people staying in our Spain airbnb had to provide photo of passport to vendor.
I book two or three air bnb's a week for housing up to 20 lads in the UK
The majority want some form of ID. It's usually when it's a business hosting and not an individual.
Occasionally I get one that needs full name, address, dob, and ID for EVERY guest 😭
