Morning,

Driving down to the alps in a few weeks time and have a spare night on the way back and would like to go to Geneva.

Do you have pay for the motorway pass to go into Geneva from France?

Is it best to stay outside (French side) or park French side and stay in Geneva? Any recommendations for secure parking?

Any general advice?

Thanks

I'd stay on french side and travel in Geneva is not cheap.

Lots of hotels near airport with parking. Bus was 3CHF into centre from airport. A beer was 9.50CHF.

You would need a permit to drive into Switzerland but it is easy to travel on foot across the border and around the city.

Why Geneva ? There isn’t that much there in reality, it’s quite a dull city

I would much rather go somewhere like the Champagne region and buy some cheap Champs

Annecy is nicer but Geneva is a "how much?" experience.

Done Annecy a few times and will probably head there for a day anyway just thought Geneva as it's on the way back and never been there, apart from the airport. Happy to take other recommendations though.

It is possible to pass through Geneva and back to France without the motorway Vignette, I have done it many times. But you need to be pretty handy with your nav and not inadvertently end up on a motorway slip road with no way to go back! Basically you will have to drive through the city centre, past the airport, and out past the CERN facility. Pick your time of day and it is not a bad drive. It is several years since I last did it so worth checking in case the place is now a ULEZ or has other restrictions that have come into force. As for a place to stay. No idea. Try AirB&B
